Many manufacturing companies consider mechatronic development simply as the merger of several engineering disciplines with which they may be very familiar. Although mechatronics is indeed an amalgamation of well-established disciplines, it is the convergence of these very familiar practices with new and emerging market forces that presents engineering and product development challenges.

Companies that have traditionally excelled in one or two of the engineering disciplines involved in mechatronics are often challenged by the need to synchronize the development cycles of fundamentally different disciplines and integrate them into a single system. Manufacturers need to recognize that mechatronics is not simply an amalgamation of known engineering disciplines and practices and consider a new product development process for mechatronics product life-cycle management. Mechatronic systems - the synergetic integration of mechanical engineering, electronics, and computational power into integrated electromechanical devices - are gradually replacing mechanical and electromechanical devices and are serving an increased role in many products and systems.

Looking at the present scenario it has now become important to know the present trends and best practices for Mechatronic to understand the process well. Here are few which i came across...

  • In the electromechanical domain, the latest product designs incorporate new intelligent mechatronics features with increasing complexity and the use of electronics and software as differentiators in the marketplace.

  • Added electronics, increased embedded software, and smart manufacturing processes to drive the next level of operational efficiency and performance have already been started.

  • Mechanical, electrical, and software product development have traditionally grown up as separate silos of expertise and technology that need to be brought together earlier in the development lifecycle.

  • Now there are well-established vendors supplying application software for mechanical and electrical design. Competitive and best-in-class manufacturing companies use these MCAD and ECAD applications extensively in the product lifecycle.

  • Today the Intermediate Data Format (IDF) standard is typically used to communicate data between MCAD and ECAD. The IDF exchange process is well defined and the content has evolved over time, although some PCB ECAD vendors have not implemented the newest version IDF 4.0.

  • Using the emerging STEP standards to achieve the same co-development goals.

  • Embedded software processes for manufacturing companies are evolving at a rapid pace, as software content is increasing due to the complexity of product control systems.

  • PLM Data Integration, which provides a product data management architecture enabling applications to share data for collaboration in the lifecycle of mechatronics systems. This is again more important.

Mechatronics is creating a greater demand for engineering savvy that bridges the mechanical and electronics engineering disciplines resulting in a need for in-depth, on demand content available in one-stop shopping fashion. So in future we will see lot of this being used.I think the Current best practices will define the future flow...

Dear Venkat, please explain properly like, what is it that you are trying to ask here, there is no description of the topic and just 2 sides which is making difficult to answer or support for that matter.
