A heatwave and stifling humidity battered the central and eastern United States on Thursday, leaving residents searching for the coolest oasis to fend off record temperatures that have left over 20 dead.

"The dangerous heatwave continues across much of the central and eastern US, with excessive heat and humidity expected to expand into the Ohio Valley and East Coast states for the remainder of the week," the National Weather Service (NWS) said on its website. The New York Times reported that across the country the deaths of 22 people had been attributed to heatwave, which has left some 17 states from Texas to Michigan battling temperatures over 100 F (37Celsius).
The weather service has issued excessive heat warnings for those states saying there is a "large ridge of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere... keeping hot temperatures in place." Weather experts predicted that heat index values across parts of the Midwest, Ohio and mid-Atlantic could reach between 40 and 46C through Friday.

Global warming??!! 22 killed due to heat! Isn't it too much. Who is responsible? Only we. We can see so many things happening and still we are not doing anything for the same. Shouldn't we now get up and do all we can to stop this! Thanks for the information Sir.

Thanks Pragya for referral. I think this is purely global warming, for which we are responsible.

These danger signals should not be overlooked for future and every possible corrective steps should be taken so that in future such things should not happen any where in the globe.

This is a local event that may not be directly related to global warming. why are we getting warmed up about this? no merit. this is also something that we cannot control.

we the humans are responsible. we irresponsible humans do much harm to nature. we grow, live and die with nature, and at the same time we cut her with blood streams. we cut the trees, recklessly, deforest for mines, blast mountains for rocks. we ruin it like any thing. atlast what she can do she is rebelling. not only switching off fans, ac`s. please do not allow to cut any tree, plant trees, reharvest water, not support for mining in forest areas. maintain eco balance.
