Attachment makes the mind dwell on the things of the world. When the mind is free of attachment, it remains unaffected by the objective world. The mind is like a cloth and there are three different impulses which colour it: sathwic, pure impulses which make it white; rajasic, restless tendencies that turn it red, while thamasic, slothful impulses that give it a black colour.

I agree with Mr. Mohamad Bakhsh. Don't try to overcome your mind. Just allow it to be and don't be too much worried about what it thinks. The fact that you are aware of what your mind is thinking is by itself a very good progress. Next step is to allow some thoughts and discard others. For example, you would not allow a beggar into your house. You would send him away from the gate itself. You would allow the milk man, newspaper man, etc., only up to your portico. The next level is your living room where you allow acquaintance and casual friends. The final level is your bedrooms where you allow your very close and trusted relatives. Just like that you give good thoughts (beneficial thoughts) and dwell more upon it. Non beneficial thoughts will come and go but just don't give much importance to it. It is as simple as that.

Ms.Seema, the life is beautiful, visit some place which is peaceful with natures beauty........give the thought to ur' mind, see around you is in it beautiful??...who made this??????the artist who might have taken centuries to create and even you are one of them.........is in it.......think something being a human, you can contribute to this world and not just thinking and thinking to control ur mind. Whatever is happened, happened for some reason, may be this will be stepping stone for some useful lessons........prepare your mind. Spread the smile around you.........Overcoming any trouble is known as life one who never comes out doesn’t make it.

You can not over come emotions, fear, happiness which is constituted by your mind by  any means, but you can control your breath with practice.
It is believed and proved that through your breathing control you can excersie control over mind.
Hence most of the divine saints practiced pranayama. 
Some scholars distinguish between hatha and raja yoga varieties of pranayama, with the former variety usually prescribed for the beginner. According to Taimni, hatha yogic pranayama involves manipulation of pranic currents through breath regulation for bringing about the control of chitta-vrittis and changes in consciousness, whereas raja yogic pranayama involves the control of chitta-vrittis by consciousness directly through the will of the mind.

It is difficult to overcome the mind, but it is not impossible to have control on it- Gitacharya in Bhagwat Gita. This can be achieved with practice. However, it wont allow you to come out of cycles of thoughts. How you conduct these thoughts is the most important aspect. To conduct your thoughts in a proper way, we need to make our own efforts.  
1. Dont run behind the thoughts.  
2. Dont ry to suppress them.  
3. Let them come and go  
4. Just watch them.  
Even this is not possible without making our own efforts. Controlling the breath cycles "Pranayama", leading a simple life style, simple eating habits etc. will get you the power to have control on your mind.

Gita is clear about controlling the mind, though difficult but continuous efforts and watch can achieve .

Swami Vivekananda says, I quote, "Body is only mind in a grosser form, mind being composed of finer layers and the body being the denser layers; and when man has perfect control over his mind, he will also have control over his body".  He goes on to say that, "The mind brings before us all our delusions - body, sex, creed, caste, bondage; so we have to tell the truth to the mind incessantly, until it is made to realize it.  Our real nature is all bliss, and all the pleasures is not a reflection, an atom, of that bliss we get from touching our real nature".
about mind eh Hmmmm... ok its like this according vedic shaastraas it since u being from Ahom it is said that yato manaha tato buddhi yato bhuddi tato bhava which means thought leads to a feeling and feeling leads to action / reaction this is basic funda of Indian classical dance & since u r from Ahom check out from manipuri danseuses wat controlling mind body & soul is all about !!!!!  
 by practice !!!! over a period of time and @ different stages !!! initially it is about attached detachment as you carry on in life its all about detached attachment !!!

which thought to allow and not is good view . but It is true that when u live different waves, frequencies, magnetic forces are stricking u.( what u think what u spell noise, converts into force waves magenetism it is always in area field) It is different in different area influanced by peoples influances . So some place u are happy strong,some place u are worried . some time  blocked , some time feared ( In forest  fear always exist ,exp -go alone in near by forest ) . u r own strength is really p guard . U can study /learn silva method get it confirmed from psy experts . and ruben field  healing techniques . something that works beyond mind brain .The post trans  world ===== hope it could be small tip . there are in bilt mechanism with human body that u can  get energy from nature  constantly . like breathing ,u can get energy. not any existing theory it is natural . intt ???

Read & try to understand "Shreemad Bhagawat Geeta" to know more about faculty Mind, Budhhi ( Intelligence) & Ahamkaras (Egos). It states all the details even about food also.

All the problems in this world or whatever we are having in our mind is creating by our selves. So clean your mind....Just say always even if some one annoys you...I love you, I am Sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you...It will makw wonders..

Seema,Please do not try to overcome the mind.Or u can never overcome it.The reasons being,your responses are regulated by eyes,smell,and ur sensor skin.The rest ur language,hands and legs follow them. The eyes,smell and skin are regulated by food,spirituality and your surroundings.The brain analyse what u see,smell and touch.It all therefore suggests that sathwic food is the only option to overcome ur mind.Again the sathwic means, the food is bought by ur hard earned money without foul means.

Not attachment alone. The root cause of all the problems is "Desire and Attachment" When the mind is free of desire and attachment, inner peace can be attained easily.
