Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics solutions have become a mission-critical part of today's SAP landscapes. More and more SAP applications are relying on BI infrastructural elements and with SAP NetWeaver, business intelligence has become a central component of the overall solution offering.
With this development, customers are facing different challenges in the BI environments ranging from the growing number of users that require access to these functions, and the exploding data volumes that need to get managed to the need for "near real-time" analytics. The design, setup and maintenance of such a BI solution has become a challenging task.
This white paper addresses important aspects of these challenges and highlights how new SAP technologies and IBM infrastructure components will help customers to achieve a scalable SAP NetWeaver based BI solution with good performance and for a low total cost of ownership.
The paper is divided into three parts. Part 1 explains in more detail what challenges one might face in today's SAP BI solution deployment. Part 2 describes a possible architecture that addresses these challenges, and Part 3 will explain a possible path for reaching the proposed architecture. At the end of the document, a reference section contains links to additional material and contact information, should you have any further questions.
