Currently I read a german book about modern management and important methods. It covers methods like benchmarking, total quality management, target costing and also about business process rengineering.

You can find thousands of books about business process rengineering. But at the end it’s all about getting back to the roots of a company, concentrating at the core competences and most critical factors of success. Customers and customer satisfaction is for all companies the core of business. Only customers create revenue, not products, not the management, as one of the greatest leaders and former CEO said. All said and done but if we are saying we should concentrate on roots of our company can any explain how to go for it? Many people here are confuse about the first step only ie how to implement forget about evaluating outcomes.

recently I came across this article talking about implementation of BPR project, and thought of sharing with you...

The best way to map and improve the organization's procedures is to take a top down approach, and not undertake a project in isolation. That means:

  • Starting with mission statements that define the purpose of the organization and describe what sets it apart from others in its sector or industry.
  • Producing vision statements which define where the organization is going, to provide a clear picture of the desired future position.
  • Build these into a clear business strategy thereby deriving the project objectives
  • Defining behaviours that will enable the organization to achieve its' aims.
  • Producing key performance measures to track progress.
  • Relating efficiency improvements to the culture of the organization
  • Identifying initiatives that will improve performance.

Apart from this we have to also think of the software too..Because the tools that we use should also support our objective. so here are few tips while selecting the software tools..

  • Graphical interface for fast documentation
  • "Object oriented" technology, so that changes to data (eg: job titles) only need to be made in one place, and the change automatically appears throughout all the organization's procedures and documentation.
  • Drag and drop facility so you can easily relate organizational and data objects to each step in the process
  • Customizable meta data fields, so that you can include information relating to your industry, business sector or organization in your documentation
  • Analysis, such as swim-lanes to show visually how responsibilities in a process are transferred between different roles, or where data items or computer applications are used.
  • Support for Value Stream mapping.
  • CRUD or RACI reports, to provide evidence for process improvement.
  • The ability to assess the processes against agreed international standards
  • Simulation software to support 'what-if' analyses during the design phase of the project to develop LEAN processes
  • The production of word documents or web site versions of the procedures at the touch of a single button, so that the information can be easily maintained and updated.

So it can be summarized as It begins with defining the scope and objectives of your re engineering project, then going through a learning process (with your customers, your employees, your competitors and non-competitors, and with new technology). Given this knowledge base, you can create a vision for the future and design new business processes. Given the definition of the "to be" state, you can then create a plan of action based on the gap between your current processes, technologies and structures, and where you want to go. It is then a matter of implementing your solution.

Believers believe and non-believers don't . No one can tell what will happen tomorrow but we want to get assurity which makes us feel more secure and so we want to believe in it. All the astrologers are taking advantage of this mentality.
