10 Mantras
of How to make your resume get noticed…………………….
This is a question that usually prompts in mind of any job seeker who may range
from a fresher to a 15 year experience professional.
Many people do a lot of R D to know what exactly a recruiter looks for in a
profile.
So here are 10 Mantra’s to make your resume attractive while keeping it simple
and crisp.
1. Increasing the number of pages doesn’t help. It’s a headache for recruiter
to go through all the pages. If you run high on experience (typically more than
8 years) it’s always better to keep first page as summery of your experience.
It should be bulleted points not more than 4-5 (mention only important roles
and value addition done by you)
2. It’s good to keep your career objective in the beginning of resume, it helps
recruiter to see if your personal vision is in lines with company’s or not(cut
copy paste is an absolute “No No”)
3. Do mention all companies worked along with duration, it helps recruiter to
see your career progression in one go and they need not run through the pages
searching for the names of your past employer
4. Mentioning the link of the company (especially when it’s not a well known
company) gives lot of credibility to your profile (usually recruiter views such
profiles as genuine one)
5. Do not try to put everything in resume, you should have content to speak
during interview (talking resume during interview leaves a negative
impression), do not use too many fonts and colors.
6. The project description should run from most recent to the last (need to
mention every project, only those projects which you consider to be
important/breakthrough in your career will give weight to your profile)
7. If you are working in contract with certain company, do mention the name of consultancy
through which you are deputed.
8. Need not to mention your marital status/Race/ Religion/Number of children
etc.
9. Capitalize proper nouns, such as names of schools, colleges, and
universities; names of companies; and brand names of products. Capitalize major
words in the names and titles of books, tests, and articles that appear in the
body of your resume. Capitalize words in major section headings of your resume.
Do not capitalize words just because they seem important.
Last But Not the Least-
10. Do not try to fake information even in resume as more and more
organization’s are doing background check (resume submitted is usually part of
BG documents), it can pose a serious threat to your career
Remember that a resume is not an autobiography. Too much information will only
get in the way. The more compact your resume, the easier it will be to review.
If a person who is swamped with resumes looks at yours, catches the main
points, and then calls you for an interview to fill in some of the details,
your resume has already accomplished its task. A clear and concise resume makes
for a happy reader and a good impression.
Include these changes in your profile, and get your resume noticed in the crowd
of thousands of resume.
Good luck!
