how to search a better career in the days of recession.

 Top Comment : Dayanand Deshpande   | 04 11 2009 05:53:49 +0000
Hi Santosh... I believe it is very important to be networked all the time bcoz majority of jobs are found as a result of networking. Networking should be in-person professional, more informal social gatherings, professional online networking like this TooStep platform, as well as volunteering. Using a combination of methods is usually ideal. Recession has equally affected all areas of the company. If there is a recruitment freeze it will be applicable to all the functions. You should do something that you have interest in. Moreover, the recession will not last forever. Better days will come as well. All the best............

agree with most of people, like networking, sharpening your skills, adding some certificates, doing some training, contributing to social media, making your image and network better and ask for references,--- Still Vimp , decision making by the employer due to recession has become very prudent so- You need to be very good and creative with crisp points that why are you a good match for the job.( Sell Your self in much better way)
practice it---

I think Mr. Dayanand has summarised everything required for job hunting. It is this time, where everybody needs to interrogate himself/herself what exactly suits or interests you & keep something ready in hand which will help in bad times. In other words, apart from existing job , we need to have a standby field as an option which will help us if similar situation arises in future.Networking has become essential part for searching any type of job ,might be a white collar job or less glamorous job,we have to do it.The flame of optimisim should be maintained throughout the recession period & for the time to come.

Recession is not permanent. In business and profession every thing is at a dynamic state most of the time.Contacts, networking ,informal social gathering may help. But along with it. I feel it is best time to go back to studies, take courses which you currently need or your may need once the tide turns for better, sharpen his or skill which is lacking, but could not address to while going was good professionlly. And add few more coloured feather in personal profile by taking part in related social obligations, like free of cost article to new start up magazines in case of a writer.Giving consultations to new dot coms, intitating new venture for wannabes .And yes ,last but not the least, keeping best ties with HR,without being loud...or over charming.

I agree with you Mr. Deshpande, as you said it's most important to be networked and in these days of recession it is most vital. As you said TooStep is also one platform addition to that one can use his personal contacts, no matter even a competitor as every one respect each other and if a person is performing and has good contacts it's better for the company to appoint him and reap the benefits. The most important thing is even if the compensation package is 10-20% less go for it it's better to continue working than struggling.
