In spite of remarkable achievements in various fields, man is unhappy.  But everything will be fine for him, if only he learns to be humble and accept the fact that what he thinks he has gained, was made possible for him by God. Such faith is necessary as the first step for his spiritual advancement even while he lives in this materialistic world.

Saint Ramadas once visited a Hanuman Temple.

The priest, who felt himself to be a very important person, went out to fetch some water, ignoring the presence of Ramadas, who prostrated behind his back. This was repeated even after the priest returned.

The peculiar conduct of the visitor surprised the priest, who asked him why he prostrated behind his back.

Ramadas replied that the salutations were not for him but to Hanuman who had entered the temple when the priest left and made his exit when the priest came back.

The priest realized his guilt of not displaying humility despite his learning.

Great fable. Thank you. It took 600 years for Sage Bharadwaja to realize that knowledge is infinite, cannot be "conquered", and the only path to ultimate realization is complete surrender. The more we "learn", the more we should be reminded of the vastness of knowledge and our own ignorance. Indeed, of all the virtues, humility is perhaps the most noble because it rids us of the otherwise destructive ego. Thanks again.

The Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)did not behave towards others as if he was better than they were, nor did he spurn manual work. One of his companions reported that Prophet Muhammad worked happily with servants or workers. Other companions related that the Prophet tidied his house, tied camels, feed animals, ate meals with his servants, and helped them in kneading dough and bringing provisions from the market. It was also reported that he used to visit the sick, attend funerals, ride on a donkey, slow down his pace for the sake of the weak and accept invitations from the poor.

“And the slaves of God are those who walk on the earth in humility and calmness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness.” (Quran 25:63)

Humility comes from knowing about God and recognising His greatness, venerating Him, loving Him and being in awe of Him; and it comes from knowing about oneself and one’s own faults, and weaknesses. God gives this characteristic to those who struggle to become close to Him through deeds of piety and righteousness. A companion close to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)heard him say,

“Wealth does not decrease because of charity, and God increases His slave in honour when he forgives others. And no one humbles himself before God but God will raise him (in status).” (Saheeh Muslim )

This is one way to console yourself if you can't analyse, realize and resolve your own problems. If Gyan yog doesn't work then karma yog works. Bhakti is last resort for the persons who are prone to believe blindly the year's told stories about peace and blind faith. aadiguru shankar was every moment insisted to apply logic and sharpen the brain. he always insisted for analytical approach supported by evidence not simply follow what the orthodox people say.

Mr. Murthy I have a single doubt on this and I'll be grateful wholeheartedly if you or somebody kindly clears it. Rather you may consider that it got me confused.
Is this having any parity between today's social context where being in humility means to be self humiliation or a strata where a person is infected by an inferiority complex (Only for the lower and mid level persons as the high ups in society term it as down to earth factor)?
All I want is to be cleared upon the difference in parallel perspective of today's social context.

To be humble is acceptable without any question. But to be satisfied with your results rules out any improvement.any step towards spirituality is a step towards improvement, from ignorance to enlightment.

Mr Murthy, Thanks for sharing our texts are full with knowledge yet most prefer imported brand of education and learning for their children where ATTITUDE and not HUMILITY matters.
Dear Mr. Murthy,

The story has a real moral value, if someone wants to learn lesson. But, the irony of fate is that the people filled with positional pride forget that humilty is a great weapon to win every one, while pride is a great enemy of even for themselves.

You can practice humility only in a society that accepts it, that treasures it. A society that just preaches humility is as good as the one that opposes it.
