I like Jarnail Singh (Hero who threw a shoe at Indian Home Minister). He has shown that the short-cut to fame and that too with very favourable risk-reward ratio is to throw a shoe at a Government Minister. Though, not an original idea, Jarnail Singh used this technique in a very effective way and achieved what he wanted.
Incredible that the act ensures instant celebrity status. TV guys will be after you for interviews and offers of tickets for elections and cash rewards will be showered on you. The risk is minimal. Jarnail Singh did not even go to Jail for a single minute (that too after throwing shoe at none other than the Union Home Minister). I see a lucrative business proposition in this entire episode.
The first business proposition is to manufacture “Throwable Shoes”. These shoes may cost a fraction of the cost of new shoes (good shoes cost upwards of Rs 3,000 – more than a silk saree- and after paying that much, people will hardly be inclined to throw them away). These “Throwable Shoes” must be aero-dynamically designed to find their targets with accuracy. In this time of recession, “Throwable Shoes” should suit many shoe manufacturers. One side benefit is free publicity for the shoe manufacturers (they should display their logo prominently on the “Throwable Shoes” as close up of thrown the shoe is likely to be shown again and again on TV channels).
The second business proposition is the manufacture and sale of custom made “Shoe Guards” for the politicians to wear during press conferences and public meetings. These may come in party colours or national colours may also be named like Shoe Guard No. 1 (For Head of State – Like Air Force No. 1 for the US President).
Other business propositions include Coaching Classes for ‘would be’ Shoe Throwers both at throwing shoes and in answering questions of TV Journalists after successfully throwing the shoe, Publishing books like “How to Excel in Shoe Throwing” etc. The potential is immense. Look at the possible targets for a potential Shoe Thrower – right from Sonia, entire lot of Central Government Ministers, Leaders of the other national and regional parties, Members of Parliament, State Government Ministers, and MLAs and so on. There are thousands of eligible targets and therefore, this Shoe Throwing is going to be the business of the future. The scope lies in not only domestic market but also in international markets – ask George Bush and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
