People who can't own a luxury car like Mercedes benz, can just travel  in them daily, as the first set of Mercedes Benz buses were unveiled and are up and running in the state of Karnataka.....

In line with the ambitious road map laid for Transport Departments in the State to make them a model system in the country, Karnataka State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Wednesday flagged off four Mercedes Benz buses.

“The Corporation a few months ago operated the Benz buses on a trial basis between Bangalore and Mysore and decided to acquire the vehicles based on the customer feedback and technical satisfaction,” Transport Minister R Ashok said. While two of the four buses will operate between Bangalore and Mysore, the rest will run on the Bangalore-Shimoga route, the corporation said. The fares of the Benz are on a par with that of the Volvo services.

Ashok said the Corporation would soon operate Benz buses on the Bangalore-Tirupati, Bangalore-Chennai and Bangalore-Hyderabad routes.

Without divulging the actual cost of a Benz bus, he said: “These are modern buses rated as one of the best in the world. So they will cost about Rs 3 lakh to 4 lakh more than the Volvo buses.”

Ashok had said sometime last month that KSRTC would buy about 10 Mercedes Benz buses of which four became functional on Wednesday and the remaining are expected to be flagged off soon.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has also been running Benz buses on a trial basis since August 28, this year. The Corporation will also set up a drivers’ training centre for KSRTC drivers in Hassan on the lines of a BMTC centre at Vaddarahalli. About 10 acres of land has been acquired for the purpose.

Besides, the Corporation will also construct modern bus terminals in various districts and enhance the quality of its bus crew, it revealed.

So, what do you think people Is India ready for Buses of such luxury, are our roads ready to carry such luxury buses from Mercedes benz and volvo?? Any way its a nice addtion for Indian transportation system :)

If we wait like that, we will only have to do with our old bullock carts because our roads and people will never be ready. We will have to do with whatever is available and get the best out of all situations.

Which company made bus or what speed is not important at all, better roads, punctuality of the buses at destinations, good maintenance of the buses, better service, affordable price for travel etc should be considered if these things are not attended to it does not make any difference even if the pushpaka vimana is available for travel

yesterday i saw two buses while travelling and its phenomenal. Average speed of this bus which is already flying in highway is 125kmph and feel great to have comfort buses if more buses like this then even the rates per ticket /person becomes less and we can avoid using cars Thanks for the article

KSRTC , after a trail run only , purchased these. Obviously, roads available there, may be suitable at present. Otherwise, I think, the govt. might not have said," YES" to it.

Anyhow guys will feel the comfort of BENZ when they travel to Mysore/Shimoga. Certainly, tuning of fine technology in transport provides better service & COMFORT . And that is BENZ.

Yes, better roads are necessary for these type of buses & one more thing spiting and stone pelting, blazing fire to buses after any incident in city, country, state is the very favorite enjoyment of some peoples that is to be in control. First, we have to create a mentality of public for using of such type of luxury buses. In Pune there are 10 volvo & 2 mercedes benz buses but only 3-4 volvo run properly, means maintenance of this buses are most important.

Rightly put up Mr. Ravindra.....we need better roads for these buses, and that is not there, with bad road condition, government will be spending more on their services than providing better service for people with these buses...

Mercedes, Volvo or our ageing Leyland and Tata all require better roads....
