Canadians are increasingly looking to India for timely medical treatment as wait periods under the country's public health system get longer. Many are saying they would recommend India to anyone seeking "world-class health care" at a small cost.

At the conference on medical tourism to India in Toronto, Canadians who benefited from medical treatment - heart operation, spine surgery or knee transplant - in India sang praises of the Indian healthcare system. Narrating their experiences at the three-day "India: Medical Tourism Destination 2009" conference, they lauded Indian hospitals, doctors and after-care as among the very best in the world.

Indian healthcare is affordable to the foreigners. Is it the same with every common man in India?

I don't think this is true for the case of common people in India. For the people of US and European countries, the world class healthcare facilities in the private hospitals will be affordable and cheap. But for the most Indian, its an expensive one

Indian private corporate hospitals have the best clinical skills and infrastructure in the world. The accreditations achieved resonates the value proposition the private healthcare commands. This has paved way for medical tourism and through constant efforts much more can be achieved. The healthcare disparity between regions and people in India does not change the value of Indian private healthcare scenario. Therefore discussion on creating a equitable healthcare requires a different platform.

Yeah, the Private Health care system in India is remarkable and quite cheap for foreigners as compared to the private hospitals in their counterpart countries but sorry to say it cannot be considered so affordable for a common man in India!

There's a huge divide in terms of quality of health care in urban vs rural areas & private vs govt hospitals especially in terms of hygiene, technology & time required. But i do feel that doctors or for that matter all health professionals in govt setup can easily outperform the private ones when it comes to skills due to their sheer amount of hands - on clinical experience.
