Comscore has announced in its latest report that the Indian internet penetration has grown by 17% year. Comscore numbers do not include cyber cafe or mobile traffic. Mobile traffic would be sizable given 500 million plus phones and about 5-10% of that can be assumed to be GPRS subscribers and hence a rough estimate of 30 million mobile internet users can be pegged and add to that cyber cafe access. But again all this could over lap as well in terms of unique users. What is sad though that India is 1/8th the size of the Internet penetration in China.

Well i just got to hear from a freind of of mine about a goverment intiative under progress, in which system will be provided to rural subscribers for rate as low as Rs. 6000/-, with probably hard disk (only usb) & some celron eequivalent processor . Only condition though is that it would run only on BSNL connection.

but it could just be another file or rumor God knows

all this 17% is contributed by the cities...and there are a hell lot of people in India who don't even know what is internet...we need to change and every citizen of India should b aware of the developments in his country.

India has a long way to go, if need to catch up with China..
