You all should have gone through the news recently where a guy hid in a toilet of an airplane to reach India....well you all might have thought that it was illegal and all, but listen to his story and then decide what he did whether it was right or wrong...This is an article from TOI, and after reading it I really felt for Indians who are working in Arab countries...

Habib Hussain of Moradabad, who hid in a toilet on an Air India flight from Saudi Arabia to return to his own country, says he did so for his two children, his pregnant wife, and an ailing mother. After his bizarre experience, Habib says he has realised that `aadhi roti' (half a piece of bread) at home is better than one in an alien land. He also said Indian labour is sold like cattle in that country.

He had sold his two `bigha' land for Rs 1.25 lakh and left behind just about Rs 11,000 for his family after paying the agent. He now tearfully says, ``There was no point in staying in Saudi. I just had to return. My wife was two months pregnant when I left and will have a baby any time now. My family was hungry here; I was hungry there. I was better off earning Rs 80 a day and feeding my family rather than living on a promise of Rs 15,000-20,000 and not getting a paisa.

"I know there could have been serious problems during the flight, but I had confidence in my countrymen. Moreover, I was ready to face any consequence in India which would have been better than living in Saudi Arabia," he says.

"After grazing goats until noon, I offered namaz. In the evening, after helping a Haji with his bags, I slipped into a toilet in the lower deck of the aircraft. Forty-five minutes after the plane took off, an air hostess saw me. After she heard my story, she gave me a seat and food," said Habib.

All that Habib got to eat in the six months that he was away was one roti and a bowl of dal worth Re 1 each day - bought from the money that the Hajis tipped him with. "I didn't get a penny from my employer and started saving whatever I could to get back to my country. I could manage to save Rs 800 and thought if my passport was returned to me, I could board a flight to India. But whenever we asked for our passports, we were kicked and thrashed and made to work for over 14 to 18 hours a day," he said.

"Indian labour is sold in Saudi like cattle and thousands of Indians from UP and Bengal are suffering there. They are helpless without their passports,'' said Habib. "My agent (Imran) got an assignment to provide 50 labourers from India. We were recruited and sent in groups of five, 10 and 20. After landing, I was made to work in Jeddah for a month. I grazed goats during the day and worked as a cleaner at the airport in the evenings. I worked for 14-18 hours a day. Thereafter, I was sold to a `khafil' or agent in Medina who required 500 people. In Medina, I worked for over 15 hours daily. I wept and wondered how my family was doing back home,'' he said.

"My father passed away two years back and my mother is ill and needs medication. I just want to get back home. I hope my case will be seen with empathy. Who will feed my children if I am put behind bars?'' he asked.

What do you think about this situation of Indian labourers guys, not only labourers but many who are working in prominent positions in good companies are also made to struggle in that country..they will not give you NOC and they will take back hard earned money that you have struggled for all the while with their stringent law... so how to deal these sort of situation where a human beings life is made miserable and where one has to take desperate measures as Habib hussain.....share your thoughts...

This is the pathetic situation of our country men, all this mainly happens due to the middle men who will not give the complete information to the person who is flying there for the job, he just thinks about his commision that he gets...so most of them will be fraudly sent to that country to work like slaves, and the living condition is not at all acceptable, but if they revolt they will be beaten up and will not be given food...so to survive and in a hope to get back they will be staying there without questioning anything, and Habib hussain's case should open the eyes of Indian government and help many labourers who are there and are suffering like this, and I think the Government should pardon this person.....

veryyy unfortunate but true. Frankly, there's a urgent need for 'control on agents/agencies' within India. These workers are charged a high sum in India for return for a job (which in fact is violative of laws of the UAE).

This is indeed a sad situation. However, in this modern age people still fall for those big promises. While I believe that people leave their countries and go to other countries to seek better jobs, the burning question is why not stay in your own country and try to make a living. This is a decision you take responsibility for when you choose to leave your country.
Casting blame on the government of any country for leaving is acceptable but when you encounter your difficulties we are quick to blame the government. This is not fair. No government would not encourage their people to leave their country to go slave in another. However, these cases should be brought to their attention.

This is a pathetic issue for every indian who is dreaming some thing before leaving to saudi. The main problem is most of the people are not enquiring what is the correct job they have to do there, where & what is the job? Coming to agents, most of them are interested only in their commissions but not about the people for what they are sending? This problem is not only for labour or lower level posts only even some people even got stuck in problems in middle levels also. Anyway i found very few people who r able to work with some satisfaction.

more than the middleman we are also equally responsible, the greed, indian situation and politicians again whome we only elect and the spineless goverment. our mr twitter foreign dy minister or who so ever tweets and does nothing in these situations.

he tweets for his popularity and the responsible officers of the various dept. should be taken ot task as the agent is able to do such things and get away? so every where we are there in one form or the other.

Isn't there a limit to to our countrymen's gullibility? I can understand poor laborers falling prey to middlemen's frauds. How can one digest educated city dwellers and even policemen investing in all those 420 schemes?

Only innocent, greed for better living get trapped in such thing. My question is if you go to some other country and do a job it means you are trying to take there people's job, so y do they like u. Indian government don't even know who the agents, they have introduces site for such people but if they are not educated and dont want to search at its own then will face such situations. v Indians dont know own basic rights to protect our selves. In our education system this shud b the first thing to be taught, our basic rights and our responsibilities. Every one will say its pathetic and will give some sympathy to him, y dont u think he never tried to search before going to saudi. this is his responsibility to know. y u say it happens due to middle men and our government? if u have greed for money then ready to face.

Really horrible,
An Indian committed suicide in Dubai, Indian worker beaten in Saudi; Indians are kidnapped in Afghanistan, Indian killed in Australia, Indian beaten to death in London.
This is the news every day, but I never heard a solution from Indian government. Indian embassy outside the country has some good programs. But they are not reaching the common man. Indian embassy suggests to register with them after reaching any foreign country. They will provide an identity number. People can contact them in problems. But every person does not know this.
Is the middle man having some regulations from the government? Are they fallowing that? Who has to check this? People cheated by the middle man in Bombay, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and everywhere. Everybody knows this.
Indians, who are getting employment in some MNC companies (in Middle East), are living better and they are safe.
But the people who are working in un organized companies, small scale companies (we cannot say all companies) are struggling every day. Once, a person entered in any MIDDLE EAST country has to sign a contract for a period of minimum three years. The verbal or written commitments, which are given while interview (or acted like interview) will not work here. Because there is no respect for appointment letter, salary certificate or any other documents. Once a person signed a contract (some times employers or middle men sign it), that will be the non changeable agreement between the employer and employee. If he wants to leave, he has to pay some amount (there is no fixed figure, that depends on mood of employer, sometimes it is 10000AED) for cancel. If once an employee cancels his visa, there will be a ban of six months on him. If he wants a NOC, again he has to pay 5000AED to government.
In UAE, workers have some relief, they can easily go to the police, if any problems from the employer.
So dear Indians, please check properly before coming here.
Recently, I heard a Russian girl is raped in Goa, an employee of foreign embassy raped in Delhi, some foreigners beaten by a youth group……………………………… really, is it India?

I Swear.... very good one Ms. Kapoor. I feel the middleman is just doing his part of business to make his earning which is very much happening in most of the jobs here in india, so i dont see much wrong on his part. Its the person who is been approached should do the homework before he accepts the offer and goes with him. He should verify this in and out and then make a decision. Todays people dont see anything but only money and make their decision. .... I feel the govt. should come out with many awareness programs which will give clear picture of such situations happening today and so that people know what are the possibilities of getting into such traps........ Thank you, Manish N

Cheers!!

This is just a tip of iceberg. I am working in Kuwait. I am a witness to more horrid scenes. I can say the entire blame should be put on to the Politicians. Should bring all the politicians here and make them work in hot summer, only then will realise.Indian embassies are a joke. Ravi Shankar

Very sad to see slavery has taken a new form ,
you are right, the middlemen are also responsible for the condition of the employees.
Our government should look into the matter seriously.Who knows how many others are suffering there ??
