Thanks very much for the kind words Mr. Muralidharan. One thing that spurred this thought process is the reported failure rate of projects, some categories of which is still very high at 50 to 70%. Whereas we read many success stories from implementors paradoxically we also read these failure rates. Something has to be done about this. Hence the thought and also further work.

Well I haven't thought yet about the next series but thanks for the hint. Certainly sounds a good idea...

Good and nicely thought out articles in series. Thanks Mr.Rao for sharing this wonderful insight. Transition from manual working to an automated process is one of the tough tasks. However strong and knowledgeable the consultants, without willing support and coordination from the top management and their cadres below, this task is highly complicated. Scope creep is another danger, in order to subvert the entire exercise. However, this complexity will vary from organisation to organisation.
What's next? We await your next article, covering human angle!

Thanks very much Mr. Muralidharan. Absolutely agreed with your observation. This point (and certain others) will come in my last article on this series when we discuss about how the readiness can translate into benefits.

Excellent write-up Mr. Rao. What you have not covered in this software implementation success, the role of the companies to select the right type of hardware vendors, software vendors and the third-party software development company. If they don't align well with proper SLAs, every step ahead after implementation is a nightmare. Another major bottleneck in such new establishment is the people inside the organisation whose transition from manual set-up to the computerized set-up would be a great task, which requires periodical training and hand-holding till such time they become familiar with the software & the hardware they use. If the company wants to study the past trend, at least five years data should be keyed in into the new database for any business analytics or forecasting.

Thanks a lot Mr. Muralidharan. Sure I get your point and I do realize the need for more case studies (will sound fictitious but will be real-time). I am hoping the coming articles will provide more space for case studies and will be closer to real time.

Good insight Mr.Rao. Thanks for sharing your wisdom to members of Toostep. We certainly welcome your insight. If you add more real-time case studies and talk more about aftermath effect of poor implementation strategy, take any vertical, that would open up inquisitiveness in understanding every step involved. Otherwise, people would read this like another post or a blog, like a novel, missing out a vital point you would like to make.
