When the grown ups tell their children to wake up in the Brahmamuhoortha and learn their lessons, the children scarcely listen.

But the fact is that if you get up in the early morning and study your lessons, you will never forget it.  All that you study in the early hours remain in your memory.  An agency that conducts study on the learning defects in the children has approved of the practice of studying in the early hours of the day.

Brahmamuhoortha starts some forty eight minutes before sunrise.  The auspicious time is named after Lord Brahma whose wife Goddess Saraswathi, the diety of all Learning and Arts, too is believed to start working at this time.  Hence this time is called Saraswathi Yama as well.

A particular gland on the right side of the head when remains alert, it promotes learning capacity in children.  If they sit before a lighted oil lamp, for sometime to begin the day, it too sharpens their memory owing to the positive energy that the rays of the oil lamp spread all around.

It is for these reasons that the gone generation advised the children to get up in the early morning and start studying before a lighted lamp.

Morning time is when ones 'libido' is still normaly in the 'ego'. As the day progresses these get seperated and affects ones concentration. If one can maintain libido to enacapsulate ego like normal people one can study even when the sun is up say 12noon, of course in a room, one cannot study in noise of birds and animals.

To understand the phenomenon of more concentration in the morning which Indians call by the name Brhamamuhurta one need to elicite the sciences of psychoanalysis.
In a normal person his 'libido' need be covering up in uninson with his 'ego'. Usually this don't happen in almost all people, and 100% of people tend to be neurotics. But when one goes to sleep this seperation of libido from ego that happened earlier in childhood gets embeded in like libido getting attached to ego and that is when one relinquishes ones 'narscist' tendencies of 'wishes' and 'aspiration'. When one wakes up in the morning this normal state is still maintained and one gets good concentration to study because one is normal in such a state than as the day progresses when the libido leaves the ego. So there is no particular time like 4.20am etc but whenever one is normal ie; when the libido encapsulates the ego one can study say even when the sun is over ones head.

Thanks Kavitha for posting this to me. To understand this phenomenon one must scale it on science on 'sleep'. When you go to sleep one relingquishes all our 'wishes' and aspirations of life and decide to give it up or else we won't get sleep. This is the time when our 'libido' moves back into 'ego' and we go to sleep. When we wake up the libido is still in ego and we get normal mind to study without they being seperated which happens only later in day when their conflicts can generate even neurosis manifestations.
Generally speaking anyone can study any time of the day provided their ego is embeded in libido which usually is not the case for most of humanity. If you take 100 persons 100 of them will be neurotic, one has to deal with it scientificaly the reason why Professor Freud expected every educated person to be aware of 'psychoanalysis' which he thought is too difficult thing to achieve in society but a honorable targets for those who design societies and culture.

Well, getting up and doing your work during Brahmamuhoortha is indeed beneficial. If a parent want their children to use Brahmamuhoortha then there has to be some sacrifices like:

a).Make sure everybody in your house goes to bed by 9 pm, at the max at 10 pm. With out 7 hours of sleep, no kid can wake up at 4:30 or 5 in the morning, just impossible, we are not 'james bond or he-man'.

b).Make sure you do not engage in late night activities like meetings, movies, television, games etc. This will delay the time you or your family goes to bed and then if you preach about Brahmamuhoortha, it is a joke.

c). Initially, make sure that the parents too get up along with the children to do their work. As adults, you can do house keeping, your own office work, reading etc etc

d).Make sure you have a proper dinner to get up early. Skipping dinner or ignoring it will make you tired and you will not be able to get up early.

e).Make sure your child is not depressed or angry. If your child is angry/sa, talk to him/her and fix it. You need perfect harmony of body and mind to enjoy Brahmamuhoortha.

Finally, Brahmamuhoortha cannot be strictly enforced. Some students are alert and active at late night while others prefer early mornings but the benefits of Brahmamuhoortha are indisputable.

The above posting is a reproduction of an article which I came across. In order to preserve the originality, I did not add my own comments in it.

In the present day, we live in closed apartments where sunlight or natural air is seldom allowed to come through. In such apartments, I dont think it does not matter whether we get up during the Brahmamuhoortha or not.

It is always advisable to soak ourselves in the early morning sunrays and get natural fresh air so that we get the best of the atmosphere as well as be active throughout the day. The early morning rays prevent most of the diseases and add a glow to our body.

Meditation or yoga, they say, should be done in the open space where we have sunlight as well as natural air for getting the most benefits.

The only drawback we had in our religion and practices are, our elders, instead of giving a scientific reason for the practices, gave religious reasons!!! And when the youth started rebelling against religion, the first to suffer was practices, which were attributed to religions. Not only the bad ones ( there were hardly any) but the good ones also.

All these religious practices or for that matter what Hindus practiced in India, were the results of 1000s of years of research.

Till '60s in India, the problem of Sinus were hardly prevalent. When we started identifying applying of sacred ash to the forehead to religion, this practice also suffered during the rebellious periods of 60s and 70s. In actual fact the sacred ash use to do the function of absorbing the moisture from the cavities.

This Brahmamuhurtha is somewhere around 5:00 am isn't it? I am inspired! Planning to go for it. But its gotta hurt initially, might feel drowsy throughout the day, right?

Well, the first step is already done for me by providence. TV got burst last week, and I don't have plans to replace it. No chance to be awake till mid night.

Not only waking up, if they are taught minimal spritual practice like chanting of SRI GURUDEVA DATTA , dipping the legs in warm water mixed with rock salt for 15 mintues daily in sitting posture praying their family deity to get rid of them the black energy accumulated , sprinkling of Go-Moodra in their room, lighting the cow dung cake and putting some neem leaves in it and showing in their room , will help them have more concentration and resistence power to negative energies.

Mr. Raju, you are doing great service to the society by letting every one know about the significance of our age-old practices. People should understand that they are not dogmas or fictions written to discipline the human beings, but are technically-proven facts. To corroborate what you have written scientifically, I quote certain excerpts from a book: "Light of Hope" by Gurdip Hari.

"Far Infrared Rays are the invisible rays of the Sun and are rightly known as the 'Light of Life'. In recent times, these were discovered by German scientist Sir William Herschel in 1800. His research led to the discovery that while there were known visible and invisible rays, there was also a third unknown invisible ray, which had an extremely strong heat reaction. Subsequently this was named as Far Infrared Ray.

These rays exist in the human body itself since birth, and the body produces them continuously through-out our entire life span. They bring tremendous benefits to our body, as they help in the growth and development process, this is why they are termed as 'Light of Life'. However, the amount of rays produced by the human body changes every now and then, depending upon our health condition and living patterns. If we maintain a naturally healthy life-style without falling victim to the modern medicines and antibiotics, the production of these rays is on the higher side, which helps to overcome various ailments we may encounter from time to time. On the other hand, if we are leading an un-healthy life-style, the production of these rays declines. Then the body is open to attacks by disease, we age more rapidly, feel weak, lethargic, and there is a general decline in our state of health. At the time of death, the radiation of Far Infrared Rays in the human body is almost zero.

The intensity with which these rays are produced by the human body directly depends on the state of our physical health, mental and spiritual condition. It is a known fact that people whose mind, body and soul are perfectly in tune with nature, have very strong intensity and emission power of these rays from their bodies. Such persons are able to cure the ailments of others just by touching them. This has often been referred to as the healing touch which Jesus and many other spiritual personalities possessed.

The human body needs a continuos supply of these rays from Nature too, to enhance the power of the natural rays present in the body. These natural invisible rays are more actively present for consumption by the human body, at the time of sun-rising and at sun-set, and by simply exposing the human body to these rays at that particular time, we can generate greater well-being and good health. In the ancient vedic scriptures of India, this fact is clearly outlined, and many people even today follow these guidelines as a tradition, by taking bath in open air when the sun rises. These rays greatly enhance the body's micro-circulatory system, strengthen the metabolism and improve resistance levels.

With breakthroughs in the field of science and technology, Far Infrared Health products are now easily available for maintaining good health, strength and vigour. Through research it has been discovered that Bio-ceramics are capable of emitting large amounts of Far Infrared Rays with the influence of our body temperature. When NASA was researching on how to protect the safety of astronauts in space, they found that Far Infrared Rays could be produced in the human body, with help of Bio-ceramics heated at a low temperature. So the first persons to wear Bio-ceramics were NASA astronauts who traveled to the moon. Their space costumes contained Bio-ceramics, which helped to protect their bodies in outer space from disease and other problems, thus proving their immense benefits.

Later in the eighties, other countries like China, Japan and Korea began the development of Bio-ceramic Far Infrared products for enhancing human health. Sun-beads made of Bio-ceramics, which are worn around the neck like a necklace are the most effective as they have the greatest radiation among all Far Infrared products and are highly beneficial. They have a proven track record of curing and controlling Asthma within days. The list of other cures is endless but includes, Reducing fatigue, High or low blood pressure, Diabetes, Cancer, Inflammations, Chronic headaches, Strokes, Swollen prostate glands, Kidney problems, Piles, Rheumatism, Blood cholesterol, Improved skin texture, Reduction in wrinkles etc.

As the human body contains 70% water, the Bio-ceramics also cause resonance with water molecules, thus ionizing and activating them to improve blood circulation and health condition. Also with the adoption of 'Amazing Water Therapy' in your normal life schedule the effect of the Bio-ceramic products is greatly enhanced.

If your goal is having good health and greater well-being for yourself, but with least effort, all you need to do is to ingest some additional Far Infrared Rays and Water into your system. "
