Technical and job-related skills are a must, Today IT is something which you cannot escape... but are these skills sufficient enough in the long run, I think they are NOT sufficient when it comes to progressing up the ladder.

With the traditional paternalistic style of leadership becoming passé, professional managers expect their teams to be proactive, Fundamentaly strong and communicate openly.

"Soft skills are very important in business. It is essential to be technically sound, but one should also have the ability to convey the idea to the masses in the simplest possible manner".

With the boom in outsourcing taking root across industries, many professionals and subject matter experts directly deal with their clients on a regular basis.

Their approachability and people skills are what ultimately sustain the contract their employers have bagged.

"Skills are one part one has to also have more than just IT skills.. It is necessary but execution is also equally important. And it takes soft skills to execute any idea because it involves dealing with people directly....

Now coming to managing of Data center..The data center is where everything comes together — networking, facilities, business units, security and storage,” . You have to understand all these moving parts.

The best thing an IT manager can do is to learn a little something in each of the areas they know nothing about and develop a base knowledge... The density of computing has gone up tremendously because of technologies like blade servers..

I think most people are smart enough to realize, if there are any needs for more skills...what more they have to do is try and learn more and more from different domain...

He must be saying that responsibilities of data center executives is more than what were before and they need to change their style of learning and implementation due to up gradation of technology and infrastructure in their environment which hat has all sorts of implications on your overall data center.
