 There are some common phrases you might have seen in job ads. Let us see what they really mean.

 

- Ability to handle a heavy workload: If you whine, you will be fired.

 

- Career-minded: You will not mind if your designation does not change till the retirement.

 

- Casual work atmosphere: We will take casually your serious work or if you dress well. Also we take everything casually which is serious to you like your career etc.

 

- Competitive salary: We remain competitive by paying less than our competitors.

 

- Competitive environment: We have competitive environment for real spoons and a lot of employee turnover.

 

- Duties will vary: Anyone in the office can be your boss anytime.

 

- Extensive touring job: You will be required to search the new job extensively.

 

- Go-getter: You’ll have to go frequently, to get your basic requirements like chair, PC etc.

 

- Good communication skills: When management communicates, you should have skill to listen and find out what they want you to do.

 

- Problem-solving skills a must: You’re walking into a company in perpetual chaos.

 

- Self-motivated: Management won’t answer your questions.

 

- Some overtime required: Some time each night and some time each weekend and most of the time without pay.

 

- Sales position requiring motivated self-starter: You have to sell non-quality product and start running away from customers. Also there’s no basic salary; you’ll wait 30 days for your commission check.

 

- Some public relations required: If we’re in trouble, you’ll go on TV and get us out of it. You have to entertain your senior’s family also.

 

- Seeking candidates with a wide variety of experiences: You’ll need to replace three people who just left and no need to mention that you have to do your boss’s work also.
