In India, there were hardly any reports of companies practicing JIT or lean manufacturing Companies shutting down their operations for want of supplies — though some of them said that their production levels were lower. In Japan, even a day’s disruption of supplies would lead to a complete chaos. When Indian companies better their Japanese counterparts in handling supply shocks, it naturally raises eyebrows and the curiosity of one and all. How did India Inc manage? The answer is an ‘Indianised form of JIT’.
