Earlier I also found a need of exploring a vision of distributed network computing using peer-to-peer topology, and to develop basic building blocks and services that would enable innovative applications for peer groups. But now I have the special tool for that p2p programming, yeah I am talking of JXTA, short for Juxtapose. It is a recognition that peer to peer is juxtapose to client server or Web based computing.

Some common applications are collaboration on projects from anywhere using any connected device; sharing compute services, such as processor cycles or storage systems, regardless of where the systems or the users are physically located; communicating with colleagues across the world using a peer-to-peer network; sharing files and information to distributed locations on the network, not just to local hard drives; playing games so that multiple people in multiple locations can play the same game interactively; distributed searching and indexing; communicating device-to-device; Web services; and new forms of content sharing and delivery.

The applications are not limited as their are potentail upcoming opportunities, some of which I have here listed for you:

  • Open standard support. Although JXTA Search is capable of supporting arbitrary XML, there is potential to integrate JXTA Search with existing standard initiatives.

  • Private networks. It would be interesting to add private network support to JXTA Search. This would enable B2B networks and extranet applications. This may include quality of service (QoS) provisioning, security via public key infrastructures, and explicit B2B queryspace support.

  • Spam prevention. Spam may become a problem for public JXTA Search applications if providers register for terms for which their content is not representative. Spam may be addressed in a variety of ways, including comparison of the site registration to an inferred registration, tracking of searches made and results returned, and allowing consumer input.

These wide range of opportunities, provide huge market for JXTA mostly in P2P applications. Low cost and a higher level of interaction between users will boost that potentail.

So With JXTA, the power is back in the hands of individual developers and small companies. As the growth of the PC market has shown, there's a lot of opportunity when everyone can afford to participate. ..........
