I have read the article IPL is just not Cricket !!! of Sudeep Tarfdar and i want to throw more light relating to that article.

If one thought the Indian Premier League (IPL) was the only ace up Lalit Modi’s sleeve, you might have to think again. For,the man who's made Twenty20 a million-dollar enterprise is now planning dedicated IPL cricket awards on the lines of the ICC awards.

It is reliably learnt that the proposed venue for the awards will be in London as

celebrity owners think the destination offers a good marketing proposition as compared to any other location. If things work according to plan, one could see Brendon McCullum shaking a leg with Shahrukh Khan, or Yuvraj doing the bhangra with Preity Zinta, on stage as cricket and Bollywood would come together to offer a new dose of masala entertainment. The league, it is learnt, will be selling the media rights for this event separately. The broadcasting rights for the IPL are currently with Multi Screen Media (MSM), formerly Sony Entertainment Television.

The rationale for London is that the city has a huge Indian diaspora. The awards are expected to have 40 categories that will include the best bowler, batsman and fielder.

It is believed that celebrity owners want the event to be held in London. “The owners want to make the awards an event that will have performances by cricketers as well as Bollywood stars

. And given the huge Indian diaspora there, they think London is a good marketing proposition.

Even as the blueprint for the awards is being outlined,IPL is looking at separate sponsors for the event. The media rights of the event will not go to MSM.They are keeping quiet about it now and the management has not gone out to find sponsors,The reason for this is believed to be on the lines of waiting till the venue is finalised and getting commitments from cricketers to attend the event.

So according to me Lalit Modi is just trying to make IPL or a game of cricket like a Soap Opera with all the media rights, sponsorships,TRPs,marketing and awards.

Lalit Modi saw an opportunity and HIT the nail right in the head! He also created more opportunities for people. In short he has successfully created a brand that is satisfying all emotional needs of people. Be it entertainment, jobs, travel, logistics, hospitality, event, management.... You name it!

I think Lalit modi has done a great job....by bring the IPL on the lines of EPL the English Premier league.....but within 2 years of IPL it has some what become revelation in the cricketing fraternity asking for IPL window which will allow the players all over the world and the Indian players also to participate among themselves in the club format...this will hold good and there is a great future for this sport as T20 is becoming more popular all over the world than the Tests and the one-dayers...so this format and IPL will make cricket go Global....Hats-off to Modi and his men who brought this IPL for cricket lovers.....its fast and totally worth it...

What I feel is Lalit Modi had given ample opportunities to the budding talent from interiors of India. Thats the +ve out of IPL. As far as monetary gains are concerned, cricket had always been a wealthy sport, so as to speak. But u cannot blame Modi alone, bcoz its supporters r our very own cricketers. Genuine spectators who want to watch clean cricket will always look upto it as a game, but when bollywood mixes their stupid minds into a game it turns shoddy. I feel these filmstar owners of teams shld not interfere into the game, and let lalit modi & cricketers handle the real game.

I would disagree with that. Infact, Lalit Modi has unlocked the potential of the game by coming out with League cricket like IPL. Involvement of Bollywood is quite natural since top stars own IPL teams (Shilpa, Sharukh & Preeti).
