When you are considering which type of flat panel tv is best for the environmont , power consumption is the most important feature to consider.                                                                      Plasma and LCD widescreen flat panel TVs---environmental pros and cons.

Some large screen plasma TVs over 50 inches consume as much as four times the power of a CRT television. However, there are plasma TVs as large as 64.7 inches that have qualified for an energy stear rating. Many plasma TVs contain lead ( although panasonic has eliminated lead from their plasma TVs).Plasmas have a bad reputation for having a short lifetime span ,this has improved over time however and today average lifetime of a plasma TV is between 50,000 to 60,000 hours. Although less common in newer models plasma TVs may suffer from burn-in if a static image is allowed to remain on the screen for  long periods of time ,increasing the chances that  components within the plasma TV might not be replaced.

LCD TVs are typically more energy efficient per square inch than plasma TVs.However, it does not mean you can buy any LCD TV and expect it to be green.LCD TVs over 50 inches are nearly as bad as wasting electricity as plasma TVs.LCDs aren't a huge environmental winner because its components contain mercury and also the greenhouse gas, nitogen trifluoride.

Which is greener...LCD or PLASMA?

The compettition between LCD and PLASMA flat panel TVs is tough ,but ultimately LCD wins the contest. Also there are far more LCD TVs than PLASMAS that have been certified by energy star .When choosing between a LCD or PLASMA flat panel television ,the best thing you can do for the envoronment is to invest in a moderately sized LED-backlit LCD TV with Energy Star certification and hold onto it for as long as possible.

LCD means liquid crystal diode it is lamp and glows when it is on.Latest discovery found that lcd lamp is flows heatless light which is not made by any nature in total universe so man made light which is not harmful to anything/enviroment but treats your health also.So plus point is given to LCD TV.

Plasma TVs generate more heat in comparison to LCDs, due to the need to light of phosphors to create the images. So for Environment point of view LCD is a better option! But apart from environment aspect, PLasma's has got better image clarity and contrast ratio with colour accuracy than to LCD's. thanks for referral Jayanta!
