I shared my ride with a well known singer, she just returned from a concert tour. We spoke at length about music, her love for music and hours that she spends doing riyaaz (practise).

Brooding over love for music , she revelaed music takes her to a another world , a place of tranquil and peace.  In course she stated being upset that her daughter does not share her passion for music. She felt her daughter missed the joy of being in music.

After a considerable pause she said my daughter wastes time dancing...i dont like to think of her dancing on a stage...she does not realise ....she does not enjoy....

After i overcame the shock of what i heard...i told her that he daughter exprienced the same tranquil joy and peace that she attainted by singing,,,that plane can be achived through various means...singing , dancing, writing, painting, running, cooking ...i mean anything , that pushes an indiviual to a new plane. Lucky are those who reach that plane .... it is a space attainted by yogis and sadhus by immense meditation and intense practise.

If you are a parent who see a talent budding in ur child or someone close...help them enjoi that space...that is the space where genius exit.. that is the space where inventions are made...that is the space where the magic exists.

The path or  the medium u find to reach this palce is unique to you...some are transposed by one song, some a moive, a page, an invention,  a calulation, few silence and few splash colors.

Cudos to masters of this space...that space exists for each person, it for the indiviual to find it and master it . So let them fly....

On this point that after a break, a person will have renewed energy to pursue the activity again, I fully agree.

Einstein - very correct! I am often found working during nights or sleeping at 11.00 AM. Once the body receives its due rest, I am fresh and awake. My Son does this too.

Two decades before, I learnt typewriting. For almost a year, whenever I started studying, my fingers would automatically move like it does on a typewriter keyboard. Within few minutes, my concentration will be on moving my fingers right rather than what I study. I lost many useful hours of study during that period.

A person who wants to get the lyrics right, remember them so that he could participate in conversations with friends at college, will get absorbed in it and studies take a back seat.

My suggestion is, take music etc. as second channel. The primary channel for a student is to study. During this primary activity, if some music is heard, it is good and refreshing. Or if you listen to itfor few minutles and go back to studies it is OK. The danger for a student is when this secondary activity becomes primary activity.

Short sleep for ten minutes is a great refresher!!
Similarly, you can listen to anything. Problem arises when you have to respond to it. Only listening is a dual channel activity. Responding is a primary channel activity.

For example, as long as my wife is telling me something, my work will also continue. I have heard what she says but my work is not disturbed. If she asks me for a reply, many a times, I have told her not to disturb.

Thank You!!! Ms.Varsha, Mr.Bhuneshwar,MsDeepa, Bopanna, Mr Sunder.... Your comments are much appriciated.
I was much inspired by an article which spoke of Einstein, Tiger woods , Tendulkar, Mozart and many great minds...how they all retracted into thier magic space where they were on a high/ happy and used that energy into their work. Like When Einstien could not find a solution for a particular problem he would take a break and hum a song reach a happy high and return to work with renewed energy.

As parent it is our duty to have that patience . Help our kids find their energy place..may it be a game, singing or dance and help them to channelise that or similiar energy into studies.

It will take effort and that effort as a parent will go a long way in the childs future. As parents we should learn to appriciate the child in what he/she does best and is happy doing. They might be doing that to impress the parent, then channelising that energy is the art.
Thanks again!!! Send me your comments...

My Son is in 2nd PUC now. I dont like it but 2nd PUC has become a dumb game of effort, effort and effort. He has not even joined tuitions. He is good in biology and has taken PCMB. I am on the verge of announcing a discovery which will help medical science and those above 35 years of age. Since I am not a doctor or from science background, I am facing lot of difficulty getting patients to help themselves from my discovery. It is not that I forced him into Biology. It was his pet subject. After joining PUC his interest on music has increased. He is not a music talent. Nowadays, when friends in the college discuss about films and music, students tend to observe lyrics, tunes and music keenly. That costs them crucial study time, especially when they are in 2nd PUC. It is not therefore that parents blindly try to push their children towards their interests. There is some valid reason backed by knowledge of life. One should take up an activity where one can reach at least a fair level of expertise. If parents try to make their children understand this, it is in the child's interest and not against their child's interest. I hope, individuals and parents understand this.

Great Article! This article needs to be read by all parents as they are the ones who need to support their children and make them enjoy what they like as long as their likings are in the right direction.
Good one.

Beyond doubt, these are tips to parenting. More than live and let live, Life is not about chasing things down. Its about finding your happiness in things you do. Find your own space, your own style, your very own purpose of life.

The other day Abishek Bacchan, the film start was on one of the television channel. He was saying, I did flop films in the beginning of my careers because others told him, its good for him. He said its no point doing things when you actually don't have your heart into it. You got to believe in things you do.
