23rd march: One evening a boy of three was out for a walk with his father. There was also an elderly man with the father. Chatting they walked on and went beyond the village. Green crop delighted the eyes. The elders were walking along the edge of a field. Not hearing the footsteps of the boy, the father looked back. The boy was sitting on the ground and seemed to be planting some thing. The father became curious.

“What are you doing?” said he.

“Look, father, I shall grow guns all over the field” was the innocent reply of the boy. His eyes shone with the strong faith that guns would grow in the field. Both the elders were struck with wonder at the little boy’s words.

The boy was
Bhagat Singh who later fought like a hero for India’s freedom and sacrificed his life.

Bhagat Singh was hanged on the 23rd of March 1931. He was just 24.

People say that your actual life starts at 24. Even he was from a very rich family.

Just imagine his great sacrifice at this young age.

These three brave men gave their lives for their country. They were no ordinary men. They were men who dedicated their lives, who fought the British till their last breath.

One of these men, who’s a bit more famous than the other two, went on a fast for 52 days at a stretch!!! I’m not sure if even half a million in this country know about this great deed!

The three of them were mercilessly killed on this day by the British.

The three men were Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.

Lets pay our homage to those great warriors.

yes, I salute Bhagat Singh and his ideologies of an atheist and never back down even if you are going to die. Most Indians are cowards as I have come across however, there are only few like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Chandra Shekhar Azad... Our real heroes. Hats off...:D

Thanks for sharing this wonderful subject. Here i would add one more thing that i simply adorn Bhagat Singh and his friends for, it was their ability to think out of the box, it was their imaginative ideas to come up with new ways to put pressure on the then government. Be it going the violent way, using the courts to publish their ideology or fasting, no doubt the british were terrified. We as youngsters now should take a lesson from them....be imaginative, be bold, brave, fearless.....and most importantly use these qualities for the betterment of everyone..i.e. the society at large....in other words be selfless.

Like all the freedom fighters I salute the trio for making the British Empire shiver as then they had understood that their days in India are numbered.

Good Job.....Remembering these greats on a relevant day. We create monuments...declare holidays & force people to remember our freedom fighters, however these three men do not require such stimulants to remind their Heroics. They are immortals in the minds & hearts of Young India. I dont agree with konkan that most Indians are cowards,we basically look for a leader to guide us when faced with an adversity. We are one of the most dependable armed forces..... Good Job Manish....fact that you have remembered them today....it derives exponential value...

Thanks for sharing this Manish.
We all should salute them. We stand no where in there comparison.

To add to this let me tell you what I have read..

Singh was a great actor in college and took part in several plays. His acting in 'Rana Pratap', 'Samrat Chandragupta' and 'Bharata-durdasha' earned him praise from his teachers and classmates.

He ran away from home to escape an early marriage. Even at the age of eight he told his classmates "is marriage a big achievement? Anybody can marry. But I will drive the British out of India."

Jai Hind!!

it is because of their fearlessness n courage that we have got our freedom.we are breathing in free country because of such martyrs.
we have got freedom from the british but we are slaves of our own systems.
like the delay in the judiciary system, bribery, red tapism,
we need more of such heroes to clean up the system.
to disinfect the germs present in our set up.
so let us pray that more such leaders are born.or that one or all among us turn into such leaders to bring in a change with revolution to breathe more cleaner air to be more free and safe in our country by remembering and saluting bhagat singh, sukhdev and rajguru.

Thank you Manish,
That was very uplifting.

Konkan ji, I am not sure what you mean by "Cowards", but I wish to say that as Indians we may opt more towards a "Middle Way" and conciliation.

I think that makes us more pragmatic than being Cowards.

"Simply putting ones' Life into Harm's way may make us Martyrs, but the living are more useful than the dead, remember.

Sorry, this is ONLY with refernce to the word "Cowards" and does not diminish in any way, my great respect to those who have .. and are.. laying down their lives for the cause.

I salute the heroes!

For the kind of sacrifice these great warriors have made to free the country from the crutches of British regime, we stand nowhere - only enjoying and reaping the fruits of what they have toiled and sown! I feel proud of them, at the same time ashamed of our leaders who were born before Independence making mockery of our freedom!

Thanks for putting up this article. We have to constantly remind the nation of the heroic deeds and sacrifice of these martyrs. It is a pity that immense amounts of tax payers money are spent on statues of political persons but no one cares for those you paved the way for present day rulers of India.

So, shall we idolize these true sons of the soils rather than the Sonias, Manmohans, Advanis, Tatas, Ambanis, Amitabhs, Sharukhs, et al.. so shall we teach our children about the true shahids of this sick country called India, shall we give our children the lesson of being true even in danger-NEVER BACK DOWN...:D

Yes, We need heroes like these They are required much more today than any other time in history. We need to destroy todays political villains who are raping our country much more than the Britishers did those days.

Some naxal leaders did give a small ray of hope, but now-a-days they are only concentrating in killing Head Masters, Sepoy, Public heroes who use RTI to blow the Whistle, etc. Also, these naxals only operate mainly in the rural areas.
