The changing work dynamics & increasing pressure is making many employees to change their job. Many of them either change their profile, change companies, or pursue their passion.......

One wrong reaction and you are most likely to severe relationships. But it comes as a pleasant surprise that things are changing for the better. Increasingly, the attitude of organisations towards the person who desires to leave is becoming amicable.

How notice period issues can be better managed???

Here are some simple steps which can be followed to serve your notice period in a constructive & smoother way....

a) Good reason:

Separation requires a good reason, so first have a good reason to leave and stick by it. Counter offers might come your way but stick by your gun, decline politely.

b) Complete your obligations:

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5636537/2/istockphoto_5636537-office-work.jpg You should complete your obligations towards your current employer. Do your work with the same enthusiasm as before & give your best. Don't give them the last chance to raise finger on you......

c) Integrity:

The person should take the onus of finishing the given responsibility in the given time and hand in all the important contact and information. Be true to what you do for the last time in the workplace that gave you job & support....

d) Mature approach:

Don't act like a rookie....HANDLE YOUR EXIT WELL!!....

http://msnbcmedia1.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/070301/070301_bizstock_hmed_12p.hmedium.jpg  Work on maintaining relationships and sometimes work longer than the notice period just so they don’t leave things out of loop. Dealing with maturity helps you build a strong foundation for your self.

e) Contacts:

http://64.78.45.117/Portals/0/tm_images/happy_employees.jpg Maintain a good relationship, especially before leaving. Circumstances might bring you back to the same company or one might find the same boss. It is a time to nurture relationships. Wish everyone well and exchange contact numbers.

f) Company policy:

Knowledge Is Power......

Read well the company policy. Even before joining the company most young employees only worry of the salary and usually don’t read the documents before signing. Before tendering in the resignation read clearly about the company’s notice period policy.

g) Last date:

Don't be your own boss.....

Let the HR take a call and calculate your last date and make sure to get every thing on the mail. Make sure everything is on paper because HASTE CREATES WASTE!!!

A small addition to the above mentioned VALUABLE TIPS by Mr. Anand

ON FINAL DAY OF EMPLOYMENT

 	Resolve all outstanding financial obligations.

Return passes / coupons to the HR Department.

Hi Anand, Good post. One point to take note of is the main factor for an employee to change jobs. It is rarely the company, and more often the acidic boss responsible for the attrition.Exits are usually unpleasent and few companies rarely take the trouble of finding the real reason for an employee's exit, which really needs to be fixed. Bullying bosses rarely are repriminded seriously.

Hi Anand, Its really a very good post by you. These days, many people are finding few things getting harder and harder in their organizations which is somewhere leading to an increase in the attrition rate in many of them. These post of yours may not help to reduce the attrition rate but, would definately help those employees to leave the organization with such a relation that someday the same organization may call them back for the way they treated the organization while leaving it. Superb.Keep it up Anand and thanks for sharing.

Its good information for guys like to work-in multinationals or big concerns where things are systematized.I have seen companies, during notice period, they do not allocate any works to the individual & keep them comfortable if it is served by the individual. On the contrary, if the notice is served by the company itself, for the notice period, the company even allows you to remain at home.

Yes very true.
It can happen only in bigger organizations, smaller ones do intend to hamper one's carrier.I can site live examples for the same.
The point is a person must not emotional with an organization even while quiting or working or even while decision to quit.
Had your points not been excellent why would any employer give GRATUITY to them who have served long but left or retired even.

hi anand, thx for the referral. its a nice article. i'd just like to add that one must not become cynical about the organization one is leaving. that's where one got the skill, courage, strength or whatever to take the plunge in the first place. regards
