Many of us do not want to cast a vote. In my experience, the main causes are–

  1. No one political party is choice able.
  2. To go to cast a vote is risk full. There is probability to be injured by any political party or administration.
  3. Victorious political leaders would be benefited, but what is my benefit?
  4. Those who go to ‘Lanka’– become ‘Ravana’.
  5. Because in this system, the value of a vote of a learned –conscious citizen is same to an ignorant person, for that, some are not interested to cast a vote.

Except these, there may be many more reasons, please make known us about that.

Votes of an inhuman and human being can not be same. The voting system needs to be developed.

What do you do if you have a valid voters ID and yet your name is not on electoral roll?
This is very common and yet no one appears interested in a solution.

we should perform our duty first! Casting a Vote is our right and duty as well. Considering the outcome of voting is separate issue. We need to vote for the right candidate and hope for the best!

Thanks Dayamoyee for referral. I think the point is well made why people don't vote particularly educated people.

A very good topic. Most of the educated are not at all bother to cast their vote. But they stand front to crticise the Govt. The illiterate and the village folk are casting their vote. They dont know the power of their vote. They are being sold out to the parties and the candidates. They always concerned about short term gains. They are habituated to demand money from the candidates to cast their vote in their favour and becoming instrumental in institunalising the corruption. Candidates are not minding to pore money to get elected, they know they can earn thousand times what they invested in the elections. It is the responsibility of every citizen to cast their vote. The educated have additional responsibility while exercising their right to vote, to educate the illiterate consequences of short term gains and make them be judgemental in their right to exercise their vote. I never ever failed to exercise my vote except on occasion when my name was not found in the votes list.

Next General Election is in 2014! You have ample time to bring "Electoral Reforms", alter the provisions of "People Representation Act, 1951 to suit people's need. Democracy is "for people, by people and of people"! Apply pressure on the Government through Civil Societies to bring in this radical reform and elect the leader of your choice!

yes, you are right mahadev, unfortunately it is true and especially in the democratical form of government that too limiting to our country, the voter's participation ceases the moment he casts his vote and he would not have any further say whatsoever?? that too now a days, voting has become an annual process which is demoting participation in voting?

If you consider the people who do not vote, most of them atleast 90% of them are educated. They don't vote and criticise the government elected by others.

Laziness is not the afflication, at times the hopelessness of the choices is very disgusting - at time a choice between candidates is the one with less convictions or lesser corruption charges. What a horrible predicament!!!!
