A congenial work environment can be ensured by providing a clean and hygenic premises having all the basic amenities as provided by the MNCs. Any grievances arising out of this deficiency should be immediately looked into and redressed properly. An watchful eyes to the difficulties of the female employees,in particular, can avert many a problem in the workplace. A disgruntled lady can easily draw attention of her colleagues to raise a hue and cry.
To get the best of their employees, the management must try to instil a feeling of oneness into them by sharing their happiness and sorrows equally. A friendly management is always liked by the employees. Appeasement of the customers too frequently at the cost of the employees' self-respect is not desirable. Siding with a customer ,prima facie in the wrong, may vitiate the existing congenial work environment. Banner like 'Customer is always right' should be displayed only after taking the staff into confidence.
Who come first - workers or customers? This can be debated only after substituting 'asset' for workers and 'returns' for customers. If we fail to take proper care of our assets in the first place, how can we expect better and continuous returns? Forced returns affecting the quality of the asset is neither advisable nor sustainable. A balanced position should be maintained vis-a-vis the employees and the customers. Any dispute between the staff and the customers should be amicably resolved with the help of the workers' representative.
As far as possible there should be an equitable distribution of workload giving no room for favouritism. A prior interaction with the workers' representatives can help a long way to minimise grievances in this respect. While sincere and efficient workers are to be rewarded, a disgruntled employee should be befriended and adequately motivated in his own way.A mere tap on the back can do miracle and transform a non-performer into a performer. No hasty decision is to be taken to the detriment of the employees only to achieve short term gains.
An amiable work environment in the form of periodic get together with the employees to know their individual problems will go a long way to get their full co-operation in the desired field. This will instil into their minds a 'feeling of oneness' which is a sine-qua-non for the success of an organization as far as dedicated performance of its workforce is concerned.
