Indians need to get out of the picture of India which has been presented by media before them. Corruptions and scams have taken place, and are shameful of course, but the entire situation has been over hyped by opposition before the aam aadmi to stimulate him vote against the government. Actually the picture of India isn't as bad as it has been projected. We are the second fastest growing Economy. At a time where super powers like UK and USA are struggling to get out of the recession, we must appreciate country's economic progress and growth.

As far as the gap between rich and poor is concern, I personally feel that things are on an improvement path. Almost every average Indian possess a cell phone and electricity which was not the case years ago. Villages have roads, towns have been urbanized and metro cities have also been developed to a level where they can compete at international standards.

Talking about the post-budget scenario, it seems to me a deciding factor for the UPA government's fate in India since this is the best (and may be the last) chance for them to show the caliber they possess.

"Be it sabzi mandi or the petrol bunk.. even the pani puri prices have hiked by 2 rupees!! Where will aam admi go?? There is a need to fill the gap between the rich and poor." - This statement clearly depicts the way media projects the government. The arguments presented by them are totally superfluous. Pani puri rates have gone up by 2 Rs - will it really make difference to a fresh graduate who has been offered a salary of 25,000 at the age of 21 years which his father couldn't get at the age of 50 years even? Isn't this because of the Economic growth?

Petrol prices have gone up because government has removed administrative price mechanism which has caused the oil companies of India to incur heavy losses. And talking about subzi-mandi prices, I think things are well in control now, aren't they?

The bottom line is that, its pure and pure political propaganda used by opposition and media has also played a significant role in that. India doesn't need better planning, but it needs better implementation and better control. Taxing the richer is purely rational to curb the inflation. And I don't think this will make any significant impact to the luxurious lives of rich people.

I think people should not speak the language which media wants them to speak. What do you think??

Yash, forget speaking the language of the media. We can see for ourselves where the country is going, you dont need the media to tell you that. Ok, agreed with your point on the petrol prices due to the international price but what about the housing scams, the middle men who are eating away the farmers hard earned money, the successful business floated by politicians in the ruling party, the price of onion going up to Rs.130 a kg and more, the cost of travel today, cost of building a house etc.
Very true a fresh graduate can probably start with a salary package of Rs. 25000 today but how long will that last. In your fathers era that 25,000 used to last for upto six months but now it will be enough for just 6 days if you happen to lead a middle class lifestyle. Sorry your argument about the towns and villages developing is not valid, how many years has it taken to develop that ? Have you ever wondered how Japan came out trumps after world war II and the atomic bombing of its twin cities ? How fast china is developing on all fronts. No Sir !
It is not enough to say that towns and villages have developed and that they have electricity and mobile phone. Villages abroad have high speed wifi connections. The villagers there own two cars at least. What do our villagers have ? The same old two bullocks !
Development has to be inclusive and fast otherwise it is no development. I too like you think positive about the country but the politicians have simply raped the country and we are witness to it. Be thankful unlike china, we have a free press and hence you keep getting news about what is happening in your neighborhood. Imagine a total clampdown on the press, you and i would not be blogging on toostep !

You can say we have developed and the country is progressing and there is economic growth only when All Indian citizens are able to purchase and possess at least 50% of what is available in the market place. Definition of poor needs to be rephraced contineously. We say we have progressed and there is no doubt in any ones mind about that We have every thing available in the marrket place thats available in other parts of the world especially rich countries. But then these are serving only the creamy layers our population In a Country where 10% of the population is equal in richness to Americans and if you see our population is 10 times that of US, we have acheived progress equal to one America but we are 10 America and 9 America is still poor.
We need to stop unnecessary and lavsih spending by the Givernment and the people alike, we need to stop corruption, we need to divert all the funds in to Rural areas to provide better infrastructure and inprove productivity of land,. We need to export more finished goods, rater than raw materials. We need to ensure that young people edcated in our country need to use their energy for improving our country rather than US and Europe. probably 90% of our Top Engineers and MBA's serve in other countries and not even send their earnings back home for use in the development of our Nation. We need to look in to that. Coruption and power in the hands of dishonest and criminals is disuading our young people contribute to the development of India. When US and Europe is encouraging our educted people to settle there and allow them to participate in power they will make US and Eurpoe as their parmanent home and not India. Can a educaated person wothout money win an election in India? it is not posible unleass he join hands with criminal and dishonest people. That being the case why he will think of his country

Thanks for mentioning: second fastest growing economy", Thanks for showing mobile phone & electricity. I am neither media person nor politician. Neither I believe in facts & figure publishes in magazine nor Rs 25000 getting a fresh graduate.I believe in practical what I see every day in India. People are growing in money power, freshers are getting more salary than ever before but how many? What is the rate in percentage? I talk about the "aam admi" which id more than 95%. Who cares about price of groceery iteam & vegetable not the electronics iteams. Who cares the transportation of Buses & trains nor the air.Who thinks about the water for drinking & bathing nor for mineral water. Who wishes for good road nor for luxury cars.Who worried for rain for cultivation not for dancing in shower. Who thinks for any employer for his/her child nor more Rs 25000 salary.Who still like "Jana Gana Mana" nor like other who forgotten the songs.Who still pray for small piece of cloth to cover his body not for fashion.

Dear friends please visit villages of India, semi rural places of India to know the facts. Even don't believe on media or opposition, see & believe in yourself.Even many things need to do. Data which showing we are growing for for those people who can read such expensive magazine & who can be happy with the data. I believe in practical, I believe in my own data, I believe in my own observation.

Well said Yash! Nothing to add but this appreciation!

India is rising! The world knows it. The world sees it! After all, we speak a 1000 languages and follow thousand Gods (of course, the non-believers too are a integral part of the country)! It will take time to organize, but we will! We are already on the go! Thanks for sharing the optimism which is shared by all fellow Indians- somewhere inside at least! :)

India no doubt is doing better than what it used to be in material terms. Philosophicaly we haven't stated our mission for the nation, which puts the citizen in a quandry and confusion. Everything happening here is 'uncany' meaning mysterious and surprising, which is the cause for lot of 'irrationality' in every processes and organizations we possess as our own.
Our individual behavior in work places and social life tend to be 'irrational' for the same reason that we are provided with irrational processes without a target to work towards.
For example the other week someone asked 'when are we going to be a superpower?'. This is a case for the Folk Psychologist to handle because the question manifests our 'collective delusions and beliefs' which are irrational for the reason that, countries become superpowers not because they consider that as a target, rather that norm falls on them accidently for the simple reason that they decide to run their countries 'rationaly' and 'scientificaly' with clear cut targets and mission statements. They become so efficient and useful for other nations that they acquire those positions accidently not artificialy gnerated. Their actions directly makes visible their targets so rational. Irrational nations degenerate.
Meida of ours cannot be considered very efficient. Their lack of professionlism and ability to be neutrel in infomring and correcting has led to the degenerated state of our economy. They do lot of speculative writings which are one sided and emotional rather after careful scientific scruitny and analysis. Moreover as I said they too dont have a target presented for the nation to scale their writing often rather for each report nobody knows what scale is bein used or what target being analysed except may be some emotional ones which are delusions and imaginations per se. Thanks for posting this to me.

We follow very wrong pattern of planning process. Calculation of Inflation in this country is based on Wholesale Price Index and not on Consumer Price Index. You have also rightly pointed out that there is a great gap between planning and implementation.

Following are the disadvantages of Wholesale Price Index
1.	India is the only major country that uses a wholesale index to measure inflation. Most countries use the CPI as a measure of inflation, as this actually measures the increase in price that a consumer will ultimately have to pay for.
2.	It pointed out that WPI does not properly measure the exact price rise an end-consumer will experience because, as the same suggests, it is at the wholesale level.
3.	The main problem with WPI calculation is that more than 100 out of the 435 commodities included in the Index have ceased to be important from the consumption point of view.
4.	India constituted the last WPI series of commodities in 1993-94; but has not updated it till now that economists argue the Index has lost relevance and can not be the barometer to calculate inflation.
5.	WPI is supposed to measure impact of prices on business. But India uses it to measure the impact on consumers. Many commodities not consumed by consumers get calculated in the index. And it does not factor in services which have assumed so much importance in the economy.

Why India is not shifting to CPI ?
•	In India, there are four different types of CPI indices, and that makes switching over to the Index from WPI fairly 'risky and unwieldy.' The four CPI series are: CPI Industrial Workers; CPI Urban Non-Manual Employees; CPI Agricultural labourers; and CPI Rural labour.
•	The CPI cannot be used in India because there is too much of a lag in reporting CPI numbers.
•	The WPI is published on a weekly basis and the CPI, on a monthly basis. And in India, inflation is calculated on a weekly basis.

Media is very powerful and has contributed immensely to improve India economically. By exposing the true colors of the system; we now have enough information to make better decisions. I think media is the fear factor for most corrupt bigies and has been making it more and more difficult for them to loot India.
Yes, you are right India is doing well in spite of the corrupt bigies....but not as much as it could have. Corruption is only increasing the gap between rich and poor.
