Occupational Health and Safety Policy

The major construction projects must keep OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY in place.In consideration of this policy,the project planners must fix the following parameters

1.Resolution and commitment for safe working

2.Safety Management System

3.Fixing accountabilities.

4.Declare the jurisdiction

5.The role of contractor for observing safety norms

1.Resolution and commitment for safe working

 a) It must be ensured that all risks have been adequately defined and controlled.

 b) The people are duly trained in recognized risk assessment process so as to identify,assess and     reduce all major risks

c) Demonstrate strong leadership and commitment to health and safety

d)Observe safe strategy to achieve industry best standards

e) Commit the necessary resources for the development of SAFETY MANAGEMENT PLANS

f) Conduct audit and improve health and safety system

g) Ensure an accident free site of construction by providing training training,education to employees,contractors and visitors.

h) Ensure regular communication regarding safety norms with all concern including stakeholders.

2.    Safety Management System

   a) The safety management system must be in place based largely on the site safe system

      The main elements of which are:

     i) safety risk management procedures ii) Hazard reduction iii) Job safety analysis and standard operating procedures iv) Risk Registers

   The construction phase of any project must be incorporated into the integrated Health,Safety,Environment  and community.

3.Fixing accountabilities.

 a)   The Head of the Project or General Manager must be made accountable for implementing safety policies.

b) Manangers,Senior supervisors must be made accountable for the implementation of safety strategies,maintaining safety,and hazarsds management plans,investgation of incidents and the promotion of safety improvements in areas of their control.

c) Every individual must be accountable to work in a manner that is healthy safe for all working under them including themselves.

d)Every person at site has a resposibility to identify hazards,rectify them or report them for remedial action.

4.   Declare the jurisdiction

1. Statutory jurisdiction for the project must be clear.All other applicable legislations must be known.

5.   The role of contractor for observing safety norms

1.The contractor must be co opted in drawing the project specific safety management plan in collaboration with the Project In charge.

 The management plan must include the following

. Responsibilies

. Goals and targets

. Hazards identification and control

. Training and inductions

. Safety system of work

. Communications

. Incident investigation and reprting

. Emergency responses
