Here's the full text of Narendra Modi's open letter to Anna Hazare:My heartfelt feelings in an open letter to Annaji

Respected Annaji,

On the eighth day of fasting in the Navratri I am inspired to write to you early at 5 O'clock in the morning.

When you were sitting at fast in Delhi during that period, I too was fasting on the occasion of Navratri, the period that symbolizes the embodiment of Divine Shakti. I was pleased indeed that by the grace of Maa Jagadamba I happened to be a co-traveller in your crusade albeit indirectly.

Observing the Navratri fast and being busy in election campaigning, I was fortunate to have the darshan of Mother Kamakshi in Assam. Your fasting was in progress and naturally I did pray to Kamakshidevi about your health and I feel certain that a divine power has been kind enough to bestow her blessings on you.

Yesterday I was back from Kerala campaign to Gandhinagar at 2 am.

And it was yesterday that I got the encouraging news of your expressing kind words for Gujarat and me.

I am fortunate and grateful to get your blessings.

Respected Annaji, my respect for you is decades old. Before I entered politics I was full time RSS pracharak. At that time national leaders of the RSS who came to attend our meetings invariably discussed your rural development activities so that it could be emulated. It has tremendous impact on me. In the past I also had the good fortune of meeting you.

I and my state of Gujarat are indebted to you for the courage and conviction you showed in saying good words for me and my state. In this show of courage you exhibited commitment to truth and a soldier-like conviction. And because of this your opinion has been universally accepted.

I request you to also bless me that your praise will not make be complacent and commit mistakes.

Your blessings have given me the strength to do what is right and what is good. At the same time my responsibility has also become more. Because of your statement crores of youth would now be having great expectations and therefore even a small mistake of mine will disappoint them. Therefore I have to remain vigilant and I seek your blessings for the same.

Respected Annaji, in this delicate moment, I should say that I come from a simple family and am a common man too. In my family no one is even distantly connected to politics or remains close to power; I do not have illusions that I am a perfect individual. Like a common man I too have my own limitations; good and bad qualities.

I pray that I am always blessed by Mother Jagadamba so that bad qualities do not take possession of me. Always thinking of doing good to Gujarat, I would devote myself to the progress of Gujarat and therefore like to wipe out the tears from the face of the poor. For doing all this I pray that I am never short of your blessings, and this is my humble request.

Respected Annaji, you are a Gandhian and a soldier. Yesterday during election campaign in Kerala when I heard about your blessings for me and my state I feared that you will be subjected to vilification. A certain group inimical to -Gujarat will not let go this opportunity to malign your love, sacrifice, penance and commitment to truth. They will try to tarnish your name because you spoke well of me and my state.

As bad luck would have it this has come true. Once again this inimical forces have come to the fore. On the occasion of Navratri I pray to Maa Jagadamba that no one sullies your fair name.

You will be aware that whosoever talks good of Gujarat he or she will be subjected to the vilification campaign.

In the past a senior Muslim parliamentarian from Canoor constituency hailing from the Communist Party Shri P Abdulla Kutty was ostracized from the party following his praising of Gujarat's development.

The superstar of this century Shri Amitabh Bachchan when he worked free for Gujarat Tourism was also attacked by this same group of inimical forces. They spread falsehoods against Bachchan so as to snap his old ties with Gujarat. At a public function in Mumbai where Bachchan was invited this group had stopped him from entering.

Also a campaign was let loose to malign the leading Gandhian of Gujarat Shri Gunavant Shah who is speaking for the atma-gaurav of Gujarat.

Maulana Ghulam Vastanavi of Gujarat who was elected as head of the Darul Uloom of Deoband was also subjected to vilification campaign when he praised the development of Gujarat. He had publicly said that Gujarat is surging ahead on the road of fast paced development, and without any religious discrimination everybody was getting the fruits of development. Soon he was silenced by undue harassment by the same forces.

Recently, Major General IS Sinha (sic) of Golden Katara division of Indian Army when he praised the development of Gujarat he too was beleaguered by the same forces and there was even a demand for disciplinary action against the major general.

These are only a few examples. But Gujarat's real developmental journey is an anathema to this group bent upon heaping calumny on my state. Whenever the name of Gujarat is mentioned these forces immediately swing into action to spread canards and falsehoods.

Respected Annaji, Gujarat's six crore people do not want that, the same group should sadden you.

I am still afraid that, this group will put you in trouble. May God give you strength.

I humbly bow to the sacrifices and penances you have made for the country. Let God bless you with supreme health so that many like me would be beneficiary of your guidance. This is my heartfelt prayer.

Yours

(Narendra Modi)

There is a story that one day Lord Shiva came into the dream of an ardent worshipper who was a Press correspondent. When the Lord asked him for a Vardan the correspondent asked for permission for a one time visit to Heaven. This was granted. After the visit he was gloomy so the escort asked him what was the matter. He replied that there was nothing new that he saw. All was known to the people on Earth and anything he wrote would not make a story that could sell. So the escort asked him how about seeing Hell? No harm in having a look said the correspondent. So they went there and found big pits for each country in Alphabetical order, separate for men and women. There were no children as they were innocent and all sent to Heaven. The people were subjected to hard work and the pits were guarded with Live electric wires on top all round. When they came to almost the middle he found one set of pits without Electric wires. He asked why this was without wires. The Sentinel on duty said there is no need. They are Indians. So the correspondent was overjoyed and said see how honest my countrymen are. The Sentinel snubbed him by saying if they were honest they would be in Heaven not here. Then why no wires? The reply HE GOT WAS:- THERE IS NO NEED. IF ONE TRIES TO CLIMB UP THE OTHERS PULL HIS LEGS.
When can we Indians learn to accept good words, good politicians, nation builders and men of integrity and stop finding faults or excuses on every word or phrase uttered by someone just to pull him down.

Hey Mr. G.A.Narayan,
I agree that Politicians look for vote Bank. That is the basis for Politics. You do not understand what I was driving at. Firstly, The CAUSES FOR THE FASTING ARE DIFFERENT, ONE NEED NOT COMPARE WITH THE OTHER. Secondly, as a Prominent Party Leader, if his desire was to look for political support, he could have sent a letter in his Party Letter Head.Thirdly, if, as a CM desire to support his cause, he should come forward to offer his substantiative measures that he would like to provide for his cause in the letter. Nothing is mentioned except looking exploitation( Using adversities as Opportunity for ever)
What I said is nothing to do with Hindutva. But, the content carriage methodology is not appealing.
Thanks!

Yes a good gesture on the part of CM Gujarat. He has written the letter since Anna has named his state as one of the best in terms of many thing.

it is unfortunate that now every body is trying for an association with Anna to show they are clean. everybody means the politicians only.

As far as my knowledge goes, Mr.Narendra Modi is a able administrator and contributing well for the development of his State. I am not interested in politics, and any person who may be from any political parties deliver good developmental work for the people of our country should be appreciated. One should not try to fish in the troubled water. Further one should be in a neutral position to make comments on others performance who are in public life. Thanks for sharing Ms.Darshana.

As you have stated, Mr. Kaliamoorthy, he is a politician and as all politicians would do, he too is trying to gain mileage from this.

You may never get reply from Modi, Mr. K Prabhakar. He is too busy to reply to all these accusations and campaign. He is too busy working for the development of his state. Whatever said and done, whatever you state, he has proven himself as a leader of a state and has ruled it well. The proof is that he gets elected time and again.

Whether Hindutva or not, people are bothered only to a very minor extent, the major part of their support would be for the candidate who works for development and proves it. Whether Gujarat or Punjab or West Bengal or Kerala, it doesnt matter and it the same - Hindutva does not matter if it is at the cost of hardship. This is human nature.

BTW, I am not a supporter of BJP or Congress. I do not care about any regional parties either. I only vote as per what I feel would be good for me and the state/country.

Open Letter mania inflicts on the Political Heavy weights. This open letter, very obviously, invited Anna to be capitalized in Modi's future political campaign. Looking for investment opportunity the way Modi called," Annaji" is very clear in connotation.
He has no time to "fasting for Public Cause" but can fast for "Mathaji"(sorry for Hindu believers). These fake appreciators, can easily exploit a Gandhian Sevaks.
I think, he can send open letters to all POLITICAL heavy weights and start an," OPEN LETTER PARTY". That may yeild a better prrice for his effort at-least. Let these people atleast restraint from spoiling the name of (sanctity of) OPEN LETTER.

Narendra Modi has said the right thing about "You will be aware that whosoever talks good of Gujarat he or she will be subjected to the vilification campaign."In our India we should not differentiate between our states.Every state has right to grow more & more.

It reflects the common man's situation though it has political shadow.
People like these are required in Indian Politics who work for people let there be some political advantage, after all who work for others in true sense...?

Publishing this letter is a proof that "Aam Aadmi"remains always prone to get played into the hands of the politicians. I wish we had shown the maturity of not taking this letter for discussion.

Thanks,Darshana, I am already aware of letter which is already out. I also do agree with Mr Harish Vadgama's comments that 'this letter was publicly released more as political opportunism than sincere appreciation for Anna hazare's efforts'.

Dear Narendra Modi, It is nice to read your letter. All of us believe that you are doing good work and wish you all success; though i am neither admirer of your party or the philosophy you profess;i think there is a need for us to differentiate between a person and the party for which he stands for.Though you may not agree with me; as a social scientist my view are different. One of the important factor that keeps many of us away from acknowledging you is your non acceptance of muliti cultural and multi religious nature of our country; You are yet to condemn the most heinous practice of caste and varnashramadharma which robs people of their hard labour in the name of religion; The most pernicious practice in India that made itself vulnerable to every kind of aggression. While you are skeptical about Anna's good words being acknowledged, your parent organization started vilification campaign ( after showing few accounting documents) of castigating Anna, Kiran Bedi,Swami Agnivesh, Medha Patkar except Ramdev. Do you see the reason? They do not belong to the genre of the organization which thinks they alone have to perform certain tasks as per varnashramadharma and hijack the issue and mislead people. How many times you have condemned the violence perpetuated by ultra rightist organizations? Never. Have you ever condemned the way in which Dr.Binayak Sen is treated in this country. Probably you may take the facade of sub judice nature of the happening.Your ethical standards are not because you subscribe to a particular religion. It is because you are an Indian; it is the Indianess in everyone of us to think like Buddha;Gandhi; Anna: Your good work is because of you are to a large extent not corrupt in financial terms. Can we say that the same thing with respect to your thoughts about India? I wish i get a reply from you.

Though many will not like it, Narendra Modi has stated the simple truth. Politics has degraded to such an extent in this country that the political class simply cannot stomach a rare politician trying to honestly improve the lot of the people. Nitish Kumar is suffering for this, Narendra Modi is demonised for doing this. There is no hope for this country. Annaji has come as a glimmer of hope but the forces of evil are so strong and embedded in the body politic of this country that getting out this rut is next to impossible.

Thank you Darshana,
Even though I am not a personal admirer of him, I admire Mr. Narendra Modi for what he has achieved in Gujrat.
But,
I think this letter was publicly released more as political opportunism than sincere appreciation for Anna hazare's efforts.
However, the less said about this the better.

Open Party campaign through letter!! nice way!
Thank you Darshana for posting this letter ! I am an admirer of Shri Narendra Modi who brought glory to Gujarat. I was also an RSS pracharak in my childhood days and canvassed for Jan Sangh. But it is not the reason for my admiration to Modiji. It is his unrelented efforts to make Gujarat the best state. Had every State been blessed to have such a CM, I am sure India would become Super Power shortly !!!

Nice words! People of this country from all walks of life supported Anna ji, not politicians! Neither he is cowed down by flowery words nor insinuation from any political party, he knows his job; he is a principled Gandhian, does everything for the sake of the country and country men! No harm will befall on him, however, hard one may try to dissuade or terrorise him! He has people strength!
