This is my take on the lokpal bill. Both sides, Anna and government, are at fault. Parliament must be supreme in deciding which bill should be passed, with what features.

Yes. Mr. Rajeev, Parliament is the supreme authority to legislate and the decision is binding. No doubt about it! The intent and purport of the Government in drafting the Bill, which, prima facie, looks so weak and has a numerous loopholes, is questionable. Why have they shifted the erstwhile Boat Club venue for conducting any peaceful agitation to Jantar Mantar, a cramped place for any agitation? Dr. Manmohan Singh has personally no problem of inclusion of PM in the ambit of Lokpal, but his party's view is different. A sitting Judge of the Apex Court also made an off-the-record personal remark that inclusion of Judiciary under Lokpal is okay. This Government is under scathing attack from all quarters, opposition, media, civil societies, and more so from its own statutory body, CAG. The Government, which is under defensive mode, is bound to make mistakes. Our Historical Monuments would get saved, but our Democracy and Democratic Principles are shaky now, for which we need to find a quick-fix solution!
