Abraham Lincoln once said that if he were given eight hours to chop down a tree, he would spend six hours sharpening his ax and two hours chopping down the tree. That is one of the true characteristics of a leader. We all should take time to sharpen our axes - by reading!  Believe it or not, the average American reads just one book a year. What that means to you and me is that if we only read one book a month in our field, we will be twelve years ahead of the average person!

The late Earl Nightingale, in his book, The Strangest Secret, said that if we read for two hours every day on any subject, in five years, we would become national experts on that particular subject. And in ten years, we would have the equivalent of a Ph.D!

Reading quality books is the ultimate joy in life. It rekindles hope and takes a person to new heights. It rejuvenates and gives a boost to any person.

We can no longer make excuses about not having time to read. Today we can even buy most books on tape, thereby turning our cars into a university on wheels while commuting to and from work!  On the road to success, we must gather a lot of information through quality reading.

Really a great insight but here I'll counter what Mr Virag and Mr Srinivas sir has quoted.
In this E-World the style of reading has gone to tremendous technical advancement because now you will find the youth crazy for gadgets like smart phones and tabloid phones, they serve both their purposes as they are the devices of intense entertainment as well as I have seen people having E-Books stored in them and referring to them while discussing with their friends on a coffee shop or even in railway coaches, well this is my personal observation and your's I do agree that may be entirely different.

But there is always a brighter side of everything.

I agree with Srinivas sir as he said and today's young generation majority spending time on internet social site, tv and enjoy with. The reading of text book during exam time..so less chance of general reading.

The other major factor is INTERNET. You can get information , knowledge from internet unlimited. You can read news paper online also. So, books reading will reduce more due to this advanced technology and convenience facilities for today's youth.

If you will make analysis of some popular magazine and its circulation, you will find the down ratio of magazine (Especial young people related magazine as well general). You will not find overall growth last year to this year or last quarter to this quater comparison.

Thanks Pi sir for referal

Great insight. Thank you very much sir. The present generation hardly reads a book. Their aim is to get a certain percentage. Universities are publishing All-in-one guides for them. Students open these guides just two days prior to the exams. They clear the exams and get the percentage they require. They never bother about opening the books. Most of them they kill their time before TVs and browsing the net.
