Dear All give a thought why our kirana stores are surviving ?  this are my personal thought , not meant to hurt someone.

Reasons are 1) Excellent CRM without any computer or data saved, say your kirana fellow knows you very well and your daily needs . many times he reminds about the product we missed , may not possible in our supermarkets though our systems are equipped with such technology but who is bothered about it ?

2) Credit facility which he can provide to his customers , so very convinient of payment options , can ever imagine that our super markets will come up with such facilities .

3) Free home delivery , though our supermarkets offer home delivery but conditions apply, say delivery only on specific timing , within 3 kilometers etc....

and many more if start comparing ? say if need urgent salt , how many of us will rush to supermarket to save maybe Re.1 .

warm regards

Mohammed.Pasha

I agree with you all, but one more positive thing for kirana walas is pricing. they do not have tax burdens, pricing varies from one to one basis.

Would love to add the following further reasons for surviving of Kirana stores

1) Greater Storage Space Reqmt when purchasing from supermarkets - if one buys in bulk and stocks up for e.g on monthly supplies , they would need lot more storage space at home, which can be a constraint. So buy as you need from kiranas satisfies their needs.

2) Supermarkets can afford great savings when you r focussed with a list on items u r looking for. Normally these visits are family affairs so expenses start right from parking to ancilliary not on the list items, making it sometimes more expensive.

3) Supermarkets will market brands with whom they have tie ups. So if one is used to certain brands they may not find their entire list of needs fulfilled at one supermarket. Whereas if you call 2-3 kirana stores in your locality your varied brand needs could easily be fulfilled at your doorstep.

great indiana baaniyaa management of tootikaatrn resoaansible far it..
MP has mentioned all the relevant points. Another fact that we see them surviving is the sheer number of years that they have been around. If you are living in your hometown or happen to visit during vacations, chances are huge that your family is still buying from the good old neighborhood kirana, if not all, still a substantial part of their requirements. It has taken him years of hard work, relationship building and transactions to earn loyal customers
Today's professionals do not stay long enough at a place to get into that kind of relationship with the kirana wala. For them, rather us, its the modern retail that we find convenient. How often would you have come across the same billing clerk or the store manager at the same store? I dont think long-term individual relationship building has even been on the mind of retail biggies. Yes, brand building still I would say is there and you tend to associate to a particular chain whichever city you go to. Thats what is going to make an impact in the long term

Apart from the above, personal touch, recognition of consumer & relationship plays much more; i mean the "FACE VALUE" pulls us more towards the kirana stores
