The Sathya Sai Trust, which manages the multi-crore empire of late godman Sathya Sai Baba has been under severe scrutiny and criticism both from the authorizes and the public after Sai Baba's abode was opened which revealed a treasure trove of 98 kg of gold, 307 kg of silver and 11.56 crore cash. While the gold was valued at Rs 20 crore, silver stocks totaled 1.6 crore apart from the heap of cash in crores.

The opening of Yajur Mandir broke a long established lie that the Trust accepted donations only through cheques. As the Deccan Chronicle reporter noted, the Yajur Mandir appeared to be a mini-Swiss bank for top political leaders, celebrities and industrialists to deposit their black money as the government had exempted the trust from reporting its income and expenditure details. The article quoted an employee in Prashanti Nilayam as saying that a kilometer-long road connecting Yajur Mandir to the Hill View Stadium was the channel for depositing the stash.

It is reported that heaps of jewelry and precious diamonds were not counted when the treasure trove of Yajur Mandir was opened allegedly shifting them to a safe destination. In different incidents, around 5.35 crores worth cash has been seized from vehicles going out of ashram so far after the godman's death. Speculations are high that large amount of gold and money have were transported out of ashram before officials opened Baba's personal chamber.

However, it's reported that the AP government is contemplating over the possibilities of taking over the controversial Sathya Sai Central Trust following the seizure of a huge amount of cash from some people close to the trust members.

It's also learned that the officials are waiting for someone to file public interest litigation (PIL) in the Andhra Pradesh High Court to investigate into the developments in the late Sathya Sai Baba's ashram. In addition AP Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the Vigilance & Enforcement (V&E) department to look into the matter.

The multi-billion dollar question is why Baba, who so disdains money and property, kept huge amount of wealth in his private abode of which the Trust can neither claim accountability nor transparency.

According to me if all the temples, churches, mosques, gurudwaras, and all the places of religious interest are searched properly then we and our nation will get the caption of "Golden Bird " or "Sone ki Chiriya" for once again. We would not require the dirty money laundered in the Swiss banks by those dirty unethical and unpatriotic people.

Hyderabad, July 19 (IANS) Cash, gold and silver continue to tumble out of cupboards in the late Sathya Sai Baba's residential quarters in Puttaparthi town of Andhra Pradesh, with valuables worth nearly Rs.59 crore being found so far in three rounds of counting.

In the latest round of inventory taken up Monday at Yajur Mandir in Prashanti Nilayam, Anantpur district officials found ornaments, cash and other valuables.

The inventory, the third in a month, yielded 34.5 kg of gold, 340 kg of silver and Rs.1.90 crore of cash till Monday night. The counting resumed Tuesday morning in the presence of Sathya Sai Central Trust officials.

Anantapur district collector Durgadas told reporters last night that the counting began at 10.45 a.m. Monday and lasted nearly 12 hours. The jewellery, cash and other valuables were found in six rooms, which were not opened in the earlier rounds.

The officials found gold bangles, earrings, silver mugs, silver cookware, plates, spoons, puja material, expensive saris, shirts, trousers and other gift items.

The officials believe there might be more rooms and closets which were not searched earlier and might yield more treasure.

The third haul is likely to raise further doubts about the functioning of the trust, which manages the affairs of the vast spiritual empire of Sathya Sai Baba.

The trust, which had opened the spiritual guru's personal chamber June 16 for the first time after his demise April 24, found Rs.11.56 crore, 98 kg gold and gold jewellery, 307 kg silver articles.

It also claimed to have completed the inventory of all the articles.

However, two days later seizure of Rs.35 lakh by police while being transported from Prashanti Nilayam to Bangalore triggered a huge row with a section of devotees alleging that the trust members were involved in financial irregularities and that huge amounts of cash and gold were shipped out of Baba's ashram.

Though the trust clarified that the cash was donated by a group of devotees for building Baba's 'samadhi', police have still not solved the mystery behind the unaccounted money.

Following the row over the seized cash and the allegations by devotees, the government stepped in. The district officials inspected the rooms adjoining Yajur Mandir July 3 and found silver and gold articles worth over Rs.76 lakh.

The second and third round of valuables have proved wrong the initial claims by the trust that there were no more rooms left to be inspected, say officials.

In the three rounds of inventory so far, nearly Rs.59 crore worth gold, silver and cash has been recovered from Yajur Mandir and adjoining rooms, say officials.

More cash, gold and silver is being found at a time when an expert committee appointed by the state government is evaluating the report submitted by the trust July 10.

The report was submitted by the trust after the government issued a notice, asking it to provide all details of its finances, activities, revenues, background of the trust members and officials and future plans.

After evaluating the report, the government is likely to take a decision on whether to take over the trust or set up a mechanism to monitor the trust in view of the demands made by a section of devotees.

Just for a handful of tainted persons, one should not denigrate the Trust. No institution in the world could have done what Satya Sai in His lifetime had done to the mankind. People across the world contributed voluntarily for the benefit of mankind. Drinking water in summer months to Chennai residents were a nightmare for all these years. State Government could not do much about it, but His mission could accomplish that, taking Krishna water to Chennai! Super-speciality Hospitals are really super-special drawing eminent surgeons from all over the world to render service free for the mankind! Institutions of Higher Learning in India adore His University that imparts value education, apart from regular curriculum! If you weigh "Good Deeds" vs. "gray areas", obviously his "good deeds" outweighs "gray areas"! Some people moved with Him with ulterior motives, which He failed to comprehend, that is the reflection of what we see now! They made some of the good Trustees "scape goats" for their nefarious interests. No Institution is above law. This is the testing phase of Good Trustees and dedicated staff. Let them come clean in this mess!

Krishnamurthy sir, Satya Sai's original name is Satyanarayan Raju. That's how he became Satya Sai Baba. He always preaches love to the mankind. If you want to see discipline, it is there in Puttaparthi, his place. For expample, if you throw some used cup/snacks packet on the road, the other devotee following you will collect it and places it in the dust bin, be it a Chairman of a company or a police official or a common man. It is unfortunate he is being compared with other fake swamis. He provided drinking water facility to the most drought prone districts covering nearly a crore of people, which government could not do in the last 50 years. he constructed a huge super speciality hospital where treatment and surgeries are done free of cost. He has many educational institutions which provide education free or with minimum cost. As I said earlier I am only expressing my feelings.
too tough to say anything

It is true that all these religious gurus in our country are fraudsters; as in the case of Satya Sai Baba ( i really do not know what is satya in his name connotes, something like corporate governance in Satyam Computers) producing things our air which is against all laws of nature. There are sex mongers teaching yoga like making billions of rupees ( Swami Nitananda). Arms dealers of yesteryears like Dhirendra Brahmachari. Murderers. Do you need any more words to describe these people?
Naharul, I have seen Satya Sai from close quarters and in fact interacted with him very closely 15-20 years back. There is no need for him to hide money. If he asks openly in a meeting, he can get 100 crores in a week's time. That was his capacity. I am not able to believe these stories but what can I do when it is clearly shown in the TVs. I am not his devotee but respect him. His ardent devotees are in for a shock. Added to this the trust members are acting funny. Only God knows what is what. I have no opinion.. except feelings to express !!
