I found this story (source unknown) I found it very interesting and worth sharing..

A worried woman went to her Doctor and said :
'Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help!
My baby is not even 1 yr. old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids
so close together.'
So the doctor said: 'Ok, and what do you want me to do?'
She said: 'I want you to perform an abortion, and I'm counting on your
help with this.'
The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady:
'I think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for
you too.'
She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.
Then he continued: 'You see, in order for you not to have to take care of
2 babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you could
rest some before the other one is born. If we're going to kill one of them, it
doesn't matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you
chose the one in your arms.
The lady was horrified and said: 'No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to
kill a child!
'I agree', the doctor replied. 'But you seemed to be ok with it, so I thought
maybe that was the best solution. The doctor smiled, realizing that he had
made his point.
He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's
already been born and one that's still in the womb. The crime is the same!

It is said that sometimes it is necessary to abort but this is no excuse, is it??

Truly the story is touching. But we can't say "Yes or No" basing on the story. When a mother face such a situation, we have to take her health condition, professional status, family background and prevailing circumstances around her into consideration. If she can't copeup with any of these challenges, she is at liberty to take a step as she prefered. Bringing up a child in proverty, with ill health, without proper care and affection and unable to provide education is more dangerous than abortion. It is our responsibility to educate masses about how to delay the pregnancy.

If the abortion is preferred on the grounds of the sex of the would be born baby, than its to be opposed.
If one is really thinking over the life of the fetus than even when we use a contraceptive its that we are killing a child or at-least the would be fetus.

Let's think logically that one of us or any other is not in a stage to bring up the child due to the circumstances irrespective of either care was taken or not to prevent pregnancy it's better to abort the child but before the 3rd month. For if the MTP(Medical Termination of Pregnancy) is to be done after that period it effects the mother.
If a girl is sexually assaulted and as a resultant she is pregnant can we suggest her to have the child. I am sure the answer would be NO by many.

There are many mother's and father's who give birth but leave the children for their sake either to beg or to be sold of, hope ABORTION is far better than leaving the child on the streets for him to eaten away by the dogs(these kind of incidents happen in India occasionally)

Its' More important for the parents to look after the born kids for a bright future. Hope getting aborted is not as bad as the parents today prefer to divorce for a better partner not thinking of the kid(s)

Logically correct. But, some times situation may warrant the parent to go for abortion. At the same time, they would have taken proper care if they dont want a baby when they are hopeless to manage the two little kids. Certainly it is a serious topic as Mr. Muralidharan said. Abortion on gender discrimination is ofcourse unlawful. Other abortions we cant ban. But, these kind stories may change the attitude of the people.

Mallika, this is a very serious topic! No two persons would be able to give you perfect view. Each one will view it from the angle of his own belief system, dogmas around, and more so, his / her understanding of this subtle issue! First of all, we are in 21st century and we have all sorts of contraceptives available at doorstep to avoid any issue of this magnitude. Therefore, no Doctor would ill-advice any patient - he would have seen potential danger to the person bearing, if aborted at that stage! Instead of directly presenting the case, he would have presented it differently!

Going by the present generation world, say no all those contraceptives that are sold in most of the medical shop like chocolates and pipermints. This is infact creating a rucus in most of the marital issues and life, Secondly, unwanted beliefs can also be a bit of a neusense so overall its a crime altogether if it is an abortion. Give chance for birth, it will do world of good for the many who are unaware of so many things in life. when you say this world is small, it is no more seeing such calamities like tusanami or bhopal gas tragedy etc...

Mr, Narayanan,

I cant really understand your point, especially the last para....

Why cant too step memebers take the positive message of insights rather than digging deep into and making like a debate as we had seen recently...

For most of the people it is a right message against abortion.

Thanks Mallika

I would like to differ. It is left to the discretion to the individuals and let us not impose our views on this subject.

There is a fetus inside the womb and it becomes an individual only after it starts breathing on its own after birth. It is different to kill a independent breathing child and it is not the same as far as a 1 or 2 or 3 month fetus. After, say 6 months the fetus is more or less fully developed and difficult to abort.

This sort of messages only give strength to "Anti Abortion Lobbyist" and "Religious Organizations" and put lots of women into unwanted hardship.

Malika, thanks for a story that makes one sit and ponder. However, abortion is a matter of belief while killing a baby already born is altogether a different matter. There is no ambiguity that the latter is murder.

Our beliefs make us think differently.

Personally I'm against abortion but I felt it necessary to state my views dispassionately.
