Self-Worth

Self-worth is not a thing; it is a perception. Just as a gymnast begins a routine with ten points and receives deductions for each mistake, so you began life with a natural, complete sense of worth. (Have you ever met an infant with self-worth issues?) But as you grow, you serve as your own judge, deducting points when you misunderstand the nature of living, and learning--when you forget you are a human-in-training and that making mistakes and having slips of integrity and mediocre moments are a part of life, not unforgivable sins.”

“You are no more or less worthy than any other person or part of reality. Your sense of worth grows by doing what is worthy. But you do not have to feel worthy; you need only treat yourself as you would a loved one or honored guest, ending self-destructive behaviors or cycles of self-sabotage, opening to life’s opportunities.”

Each and every stage of our life teaches us something everyday. We see success, failure, happiness, sorrow and what not!!! these things are like day and night. One comes and goes and other comes. We should learn from each second of life.

Every experience in life adds to our knowledge. And self-worth can only be measured by the strength of one's intellect and strong mind. It is a well of knowledge, which we constantly need to drawn upon. We need to develop an inventory of all the positive attributes we possess; this will outweigh our fears.

Lack of self-worth can be masked by indulgence in material items. The basic need for a house grows into the need for larger house and then into the desire to have best address in town. Over time, our material possessions become an integral part of our identity.

Then sub-prime crisis happened. Not only did it change the face of economies but affected people's self-worth. People's material desires have been compromised and their self-woth diminished. When most measurable possession suddenly taken away, what are u left with..?? There is such a high emotional attachment to one's possesssion that one feels helplessness once they are gone.

What remains intact is the value of our skills or knowledge within us. During the course of our lives, we absorb knowledge from various sources including formal education, experiences, environment and our families. That knowledge is our true wealth and not transient. It is love for "self" that will give us the basic material to overcome difficult circumstances and create miracles in life..!!

Not letting you to be put into others boxes is a skill which must be used when required, but making it a personality cult...well I am not sure...at least does not suit me neither I advoacte this.

Self Worth is a concept each individual builds about himself or herself. To say that it is all the same for everybody or it has to be always high-flown, is not correct.

Everything is not the same for all even at the time of birth. There are differences in inherent qualities.

What if I commit an unforgivable sin? If so, the argument presented would hold no water. Can we say, in spite of that your self-worth should be high or undisturbed or equal to that of all others?

We cannot afford to treat self worth as some imagination or wishful thinking. It is the outcome of an objective personal evaluation. It is a valuable guide shaped by ourselves for us. It may be a perception but based on definite things.

It is true that people who value their self worth greatly are able to transact successfully with others. This is a fact in the area of Human Relations. This is because Self Worth, when it is positive, confers one with self confidence, courage and willingness to interact.

If my Self Worth should be high, I should consciously work for it and deserve it. I should opt for discipline, hard work, friendliness, training and development, respect for others’ feelings and talents and so on. I should start achieving good things. By this conscious method, my self worth.

Self-worth is what you choose to make of it. I've reinvented myself several times during my life to accomplish differenr goals. Never let anyone else decide for you what you can do, and what you can be. We're all surrounded by people who want to put us into "boxes" for their own motives - family, friends, and others. Ignore them. It's your life, and your decision to make as to what that life will be.
