Shocking truth on Job Portals

Consider yourself fishing in a great lake full of different types of fishes. You spread your net to find the type of fish you want. Sometimes you are satisfied with the type of fish you get out of the day. In that great watery area how will you find what type of fishes are available and where it is hiding inside the huge water body? Is the small net is enough to find an answer for this question? No, you need a better visibility in the water and you have to see through the entire water as a king fisher from the top angle. And you need a better tool to find the type of fish you want to hunt it easily. You name any job portal, let us know if you get that king fisher view… I’m not surprised to see your answers as ‘No’.

You have a broad bottomed jar with a short neck which is full of chocolates. The neck of the jar is flexible when you insert your hands inside the jar to take the chocolates, but when you take it out the neck is not as flexible as it was earlier and Job portals has become likewise. When you try a trail period, you are happy to find your profiles. But when you subscribe, you see only limited profiles / repeat profiles on it. Has it been suddenly dried out? Has the resumes disappeared? No, job portals are clever enough to hold your hands into their broad jar. You can’t leave the jar as it is with your hands or can’t take your hands. We have made ourselves handicapped by believing too much on the cloud resume database. We thought that the resumes are going to be safe and search friendly when it is there on a job portal. We forgot our basics of forming our own official database by thinking that it is hard to find resume as easy as job portals. Many of the recruiters still think that the direct sourcing of resumes means the sourcing of resumes through the job portal and not through the internal database, resumes received through courier / postal.

Coming back to my point… Since we forgot our basics in recruitment, someone has taken advantage of misusing our skills in an improper way. What was the shocking truth that we were trying to explain here?  Yes, your visibility of resumes becomes less when you take the resume database service for less duration. For example, if you take a resume search service for a day, then you are only allowed to search / download / view certain number of profiles. When the service days go high the number of resumes viewable also becomes high. But the real shocker is that even if you pay the highest money for a year, you can’t access the entire resume database of a job portal. Isn’t shocking really?

In the above mentioned method, the recruiter who buys resume search for a limited duration becomes fool and left zero without finding a proper match. The highest paying recruiter also can’t view all the resumes even though the recruiters are paying through their nose.

Solution:

  • Time has come for the recruiters to stop believing other sources majorly and start building database for own or for the organization.
  • Even If it is for a day or a year you should be allowed to view the entire database. When you pay money, time can be a factor but not the quantity of the search.
  • Real job portals should not give you a neat to hunt fishes from the shore. If it does so, then you will be lost to find fishes on a huge basin.
  • Productive job portal should make you as a king fisher, take you on top of all the resumes (fishes) to run through what / where your fishes are hiding.
  • It is not also a loss for the employers but also for the opportunity seeking real candidates.
  • Only in-active and passive resumes are shown and the active resumes are hidden under huge mass of resumes.
  • On the outline it shows two things….. One, the potential of the recruiter on finding the resume even if he/she is given a job portal access becomes a question. Two, we are ditched by the so called number 1 job portals for the money we pay.
  • Career 2.0 method of resume database search is the need of the hour to make you a real king fisher.


Think once again before you let your hands into the jar…
