Sitemap creation and sitemap submission are basically done for search engine bots. Sitemaps is a way to optimize your site according to search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.
Sitemaps helps to get indexed faster in major SE’s. There are two types of sitemap, one for visitors through which users gets help in navigation within website and another sitemap which is available for spider and crawler. Crawler search for XML or ROR files in site, time after time. During crawling process links which are added in your sitemap file will get a visit and can get indexed, thou every link which is mentioned in sitemap does not assure you that it will get index it also depend upon your content quality. SE’s are always in hunt of fresh contents.
Google Webmaster Tool is one of my favorite free web-based tools, adding your file in site is one of the simple SEO techniques through which one can fetch some valuable information about your site, other alternative for web-based tool are Yahoo and MSN which all so provide similar tools for sitemap file.
Just you have to add sitemap file in your FTP root directory, it can be in XML or ROR file format. One can easily generate a sitemap through web-based tool, and it will take no more than a minute or so, sites like xml-sitemaps.com can help you to get your own sitemap.
