The skin is the outer covering of the body. In humans, it is the largest organ of the integumentary system made up of multiple layers of mesodermal tissue, and guards the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs.. The adjective cutaneous literally means "of the skin" (from Latin cutis, skin).Because it interfaces with the environment, skin plays a key role in protecting (the body) against pathogens and excessive water loss. Its other functions are insulation, temperature regulation, sensation, synthesis of vitamin D, and the protection of vitamin B folates. Severely damaged skin will try to heal by forming scar tissue. This is often discolored and depigmented. In humans, skin pigmentation varies among populations, and skin type can range from dry to oily. Hyper pigmentation may either be due to increased melanin deposition in the epidermis or dermis.Epidermal pigmentary disorders respond well to treatment while dermal pigmentation may take a long time to lighten.
- Melasma : Seen as brown patches on the face, it is more commonly seen in females. It occurs due to hormonal changes in the body. The pigmentation increases on sun sun exposure.
- Peri-orbital melanosis : Also known as 'dark circles' may be heriditary, due to stress or eye strain
- Freckles and Lentigenes : These are tiny black spots on the face and are genetic in origin.
- Photomelanosis : This is increased pigmentation due to sun exposure. The pigmentation occurs on exposed skin, commonly on the face, neck and the back. The pigmentation may be patchy or as diffused darkening.
- Sun burn (tan) : A condition commonly encountered in fair skinned people due to excessive sun exposure.
- Post inflammatory hyper pigmentation : It may be seen in the following cases
- Seen after healing has occured, like in acne, eczemas, contact dermatitis etc.
- Drug induced pigmentation.
- Pigmentation due to cosmetics especially those containing fragrance.
- Macular lichen amyloidosis.
- Nevus or 'Birth mark' : Usually seen at birth but may also appear at a later age.
- Tattoo : Tattoos are pigments inserted into the skin for decorative purpose which may at times be a part of tradition. Usually these artificial pigments are inserted deep into the dermis which makes them permanent and stubborn.

There are various options for the treatment of the same in different pathies
Hydroquinone is a popular phenolic derivative used in lightening and skin bleaching creams. For hyper-pigmentation removal, hydroquinone is often applied to affected areas either alone or in combination with salicylic acid, tretinoin, corticosteroid, or glycolic acid. Hydroquinone in a 4-percent concentration can fade hyper-pigmentation but it also increases your chances of sun damage. Plus, continuous use can cause some adverse side effects including skin irritation.
While more expensive than most other treatments, a number of people use laser skin resurfacing to quickly fade hyper-pigmentation. The entire procedure lasts about one hour and involves the use of a laser to remove wrinkled or damaged skin layer by layer. Potential complications could include everything from burning and scarring to skin discoloration. In rare situations, dormant viruses or infections can be triggered.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a fairly new cosmetic procedure that uses a special machine to remove layers of dead skin on the surface of the treated area(s). Microdermabrasion usually requires 8 to 10 weekly treatments to successfully fade hyper-pigmentation. For this reason, it can take two or more months to achieve the results you desire. Microdermabrasion only gets rid of a small amount of dead skin layers in spite of the fact that is administered of several weeks.

It all started at the age of 26 when it was only 2 yrs after I started my practise and was facing problem to treat hyperpigmented spots .There was increasing incidence of the same in all classes of society
It was a series of continous trial for more than 8 yrs when I use to try various combination of medicine for skin spots and for .acne marks on my regular patient & friends/relatives
It was a goal to provide something very safe affordable effective & speedy to all classes of patient .As there are lot of alternative and high class clinics which are really unfeasible for general Indian, whose one time charge is more than monthly salary of 50% Indian. We finally came to conclusion with one final combination of some plant extract and homoeo medicine .
Results were really miraculous and fast. There was no side effects or hypersensitivity reaction on long term use.On further research we found it as best alternative to regular fairness cream.
The results usually started to follow after one week to fifteen days in all types of marks and some cases of acne , with skin tightening effect thus reducing wrinkles.
Though complete improvement was desirable after few months depending on case .
Further medicinal combination was also found to be very effective on fresh scars and burns on longer term use.
Best part of that was it was really very affordable with per days expenses of nearly RS 5 per day. Results were found highly effective in 65 to 70% of our trial cases.
Our further research is continuing on hairs problems.
