Psychology and Society.

Systems of the world can be characterized as ‘hierarchical’ in nature, with cluster of classes in each level. The individual behaviour of the clusters may be visible, though the association between clusters may be invisible. One can do a ‘back to front’ analysis of this system or a ‘front to back analysis’. Front to back analysis will produce more functional explanation of the system than back to front.

Fruedian Psychanalyis is a front to back analysis of human psyche where as modern and Jungian/Adler analysis is back to front to a lot of extend. There may be exceptions.

According to Professor Freud, human psyche is divided into ‘conscious’ and ‘unconscious’. Conscious is our ‘ego’ and unconscious is the ‘libido’. Ego is our perception of hte valued perceived by the society we live in where as libido is our sexual needs repressed. Usually libido is fused with the ego.

Disassociation of libido from ego usually causes stress and causes need for gratification of libido and build up of libido instincts the cause for obsessional neurosis. Pursuit of ego gratification thus causes narscist tendencies the cause for ‘psychosis’. ‘Superego’ is a watchdog over ego which is unconscious which supervises the regulation and management of the conscious and the unconscious like a gatekeeper in a protected space.

Human development starts when the foetus transports itself through the fallopian tube where the ego instincts can start developing, to later stage called fillal state of boob sucking where one unconsciously come to like erotogenic objects and libido developes. Then later stages of childhood sees the infant adorning homosexuality, autoeroticism, masturbation caused from liking of erotogentic objects the stage is called the ‘scopophililic stage’. After sometime the childe gets fed up with this stage of ‘sexual researches and moves into ‘epistemological research’ and development which can be considered as ego taking over the humans life needs.

Adam Smith advised humans to ‘self improving’ type centuries before Professor Freud, and Freudian analysis of development affirms his conjuncture in moral philosophy into internal medicine, so that a human developes without error and sustains himself.

So humanity gets civilized when they pursue to satisfy these libidic and ego instincts of humans. Countries need be designed and developed taking into consideration the psychic needs of humans which is the direction humanity has chosen and countries get developed when the consciously purse this thesis.

Good article Mr. Mathew. In this connection, I thought I would like to present to you the ideas of C.G. Jung, who was an eminent Psycho-analyst and the practitioner of "Kunalini Yoga". As early as 1912, in Transformation and Symbols of the Libido, Jung provided psychological interpretations of passages in the Upanishads and the Rig Veda. While this opened the possibility of a comparison between the practice of analysis and that of yoga, possibly the first explicit comparison was made by F. I. Winter in “The Yoga System and Psychoanalysis.” He contrasted psychoanalysis, as depicted in the work of Freud and Jung, with Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Before Jung himself took up the subject, his work was already being compared to yoga—and the “new paths in psychology” that he sought to open up since leaving the auspices of the International Psychoanalytical Association promised to be the most fertile crossroads between Eastern and Western approaches. An account of Jung’s encounter with Eastern thought would be incomplete without mention of Count Hermann Keyserling and his School of Wisdom at Darmstadt, which provided a collegiate environment for Jung’s explorations. Keyserling dealt with yoga in his The Travel Diary of a Philosopher, which was a much-acclaimed work. He contended that the new psychology actually represented a rediscovery of what was already known by the ancient Indians: “Indian wisdom is the profoundest which exists. . . . The further we get, themore closely do we approach the views of the Indians. Psychological research confirms, step by step, the assertions contained . . . within the old Indian science of the soul.”

Thanks Mr. Muralidharan for the insights. I too believe that Indian epics of centuries older than western insights into psyche is a wealth of information on human psyche. I used to watch, the Mahabhagavatham episode tv seriel on one episode there is a sequel on the King Poundaragan of the place Koundara. He seems to equate himself with God, the names are significant like twisted first alphabets. We see Sree Krishna bhagavan visiting his palace entering into a dialog and ultimately beheading him with his 'chakrayth'. This is is metaphorical to the present plight of psychotics who get to be caught up with maladies like Alzhemers and Parkinsonism two siblings, which Jason Zweig the celebrated Finance author of US in his book on association of brain on investments after traelling around various neuroscience labs has written that the root cause of these maladies is psychosis especially Parkinsonism. The last stage of parkinsonism is Alzheimers. Psychosis is a malady where one thinks with extreame senses and is most of the time like the name mispelt in the story in Bhagavatham upsidedown thinking.
