IIMB vista is happening once again, this is one of the biggest fest in India that is happening from IIM Bangalore, and the theme is also really good "scripting the future". what must we do to script the future we want for ourselves and our future generations? A really good theme to get things started, and with so many eminent speakers who have already participated in the earlier fests where my friend Pravin has already given an Insight "What is this IIMB Vista all about" So, here let us take a look at the Speakers for this IIMB Vista 2010-11......
Ramesh Ramanathan:
is Co-founder of Janaagraha. Ramesh has also been working in the Indian microfinance sector for close to a decade, with a special focus on urban microfinance. He is Chairman of Janalakshmi, an urban microfinance institution in India. Prior to these social initiatives, Ramesh worked with Citibank in New York and London. When he left to begin his social activities in India, he was MD and Head, European Corporate Derivatives, and a member of the Global Markets Leadership Team, collectively running a business with an annual revenue of over $1 billion.
Ramesh has an MS in Physics from BITS Pilani, an MBA from Yale University, and a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) degree from the Association of Investment Management & Research (AIMR).
Baradwaj Rangan:
is a National Award-winning film critic, currently employed at The New Indian Express. After getting a Chemical Engineering degree from BITS, Pilani, Baradwaj Rangan (Baddy) had a copywriting stint at J Walter Thompson, Chennai and then took off to Marquette University, Milwaukee for a Master’s degree in Advertising and Public Relations. He spent a few years with IT industry in USA and then got back to Chennai where he is freelancing now. His film reviews and other articles on arts, entertainment and humor have been published in The New Sunday Express, The Economic Times – Madras Plus, Man’s World, Simplifly and Seminar. Arun Shourie:
a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been a member of the Rajya Sabha and also held the office of the Minister of Disinvestment, Communication and Information Technology in the Government of India. He was an economist with the World Bank, a consultant to the Planning Commission, India, editor of the Indian Express and Times of India. He has written about 25 books. He is known for his well-researched and thought provoking writings. His writings have gained him a considerable following around the country, as well as several national and international honours. Among these are the Padma Bhushan, the Magsaysay Award, the Dadabhai Naoroji Award, the Astor Award, the K.S. Hegde Award and the International Editor of the Year Award and The Freedom to Publish Award.
M J Akbar:
a leading Indian journalist and author. He is the Editor in Chief of weekly newspaper "The Sunday Guardian". He is also the founder and former editor-in-chief and managing director of The Asian Age. He has written several non-fiction books, including Byline, a biography of Jawaharlal Nehru titled Nehru: The Making of India, a book on Kashmir titled Kashmir: Behind the Vale, Riot After Riot and India: The Siege Within. He also authored The Shade of Swords, a cohesive history of jihad. Akbar's recent published book is Blood Brothers, a skillfully crafted family saga covering three generations and packed with information of events in India and the world, particularly the changing Hindu-Muslim relations.
Gautam Bhimani:
aka GB, “the quirky, witty guy who is famous for his humour and colourful snippets in cricket commentary, is also known for his interactive and fun quizzes. GB has several awards in his kitty including the "Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism" by President APJ Abdul Kalam. Gautam was a keen quizzer even before he was a commentator, and it is his quizzing that landed him his dream job!”
Thejaswi Udupa:
an alumnus of IIM-Bangalore, works as a Product Manager at Yahoo!, and is currently handling Yahoo! Cricket. He has been an active quizzer for the better part of a decade now. He has won mainstream big-money quizzes like BT Acumen, Tata Crucible, etc; but takes greater pride in his performance at open quizzes across the country. As a quizmaster, he has done quizzes for the Ministry of Science (Karnataka Govt), colleges like IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-M, BITS, NLS, and of course IIM-B apart from numerous open, college and corporate quizzes on behalf of the KQA. He has also been part of the question setting committee for Mahaquizzer, the annual nationwide solo quizzing championship. One last note, the quizmaster has harboured a life-long hate of muggoos and fighters, so come to the quiz for an afternoon of fun and fundas and not because you can recognize every CEO by their mug-shot :).
