Corruption

First published Wed Sep 14, 2005; substantive revision Wed Feb 2, 2011

The causes and effects of corruption, and how to combat corruption, are issues that are increasingly on the national and international agendas of politicians and other policymakers. For example, the World Bank has relatively recently come around to the view that economic development is closely linked to corruption reduction (World Bank 1997) and there have been numerous anti-corruption initiatives in multiple jurisdictions (Heidenheimer and Johnston 2002; Preston and Sampford 2002). Moreover, the very recent Global Financial Crisis has revealed financial corruption, and spurred regulators to consider various anti-corruption measures by way of response. By contrast, the concept of corruption has not received much attention.[1] Existing conceptual work on corruption consists in little more than the presentation of brief definitions of corruption as a preliminary to extended accounts of the causes and effects of corruption and the ways to combat it.[2] Moreover, most of these definitions of corruption are unsatisfactory in fairly obvious ways.[3]

If we re-coin the term "Corruption" as "Facilitation Fee" or "Enabler's Fee", then our angle towards this term would sound business-like!

Thanks Mr. Hari, Mr. Murli, in the paper if you read the whole thing one will find something called 'noble cause corruption' a metaphorical story of a policeman is given. This probably is the case with majority of corruption in India except may be the large one cases where neoptism type or moraly corrupt ones described in the paper happen.
The 'noble cause corruption' happen mostly in India due to our political process not well versed till now as to how to conduct sane politics where officer are forced to take bribes to maintain 'minimum living standard of their family' which tantamount to 'demand exerted on them by the economy' on a daily basis and their normal income is not enough to meet the demand or take care of their family. Taking care of a family the need for it and work towards it is a noble cause and cannot be according to the paper considered as moraly corrupting.
Please read that paper carefuly there are lots of different types of corruption and affects explained philosophicaly.

Agreed with corruption as what is the sight of the present governmental proceedings, With coalation governement, where it is purely on probable basis, it is rampant throughout the country, however, if red tapizm is removed in all the media and other communication services, it could be minimised, going by the present scenario, corruption is one way of measuring how far is one well equiped with the growing concern of the situation and that too at a stage where there is no control over the situation, underhand dealings and bribery is quite a common site in most of the commercial environment. invariably, the present generation is yet to understand the whole idea of corruption. I would also say that level of hirarchy is also to be considered as we more and more start dealing with every kind of government authorities on a day to day basis, But aspect of corruption is a package to be dealth with on generation to generation basis. Mind you, no government is functioning without corruption. it more a push and pull activities which has been the site since the independence. 60 year plus gone, many more to go.
