We always look at others and the feeling of jealousness comes in us. We want what other have. We want to be where other are. Why aren't we happy for ourself? Isn't it the simplest way of being happy?

An electric pole was standing in sun and the tree told him , "hey! you, I pity you.. You have to stand there in the sun and no one praises you nor does anyone want to stand under you.. look at me. people stand under me when they want some relief from those harsh sun rays.. he .. he.."

The pole did not think how important was it and how it gave electricity to houses and thus the fans worked.. He started feeling bad.. this bad feeling made him weak and he fell down.. This lead to power drip  in so many houses but the pole was just unaware abut it.. It died without understanding its worth just because it took to heart what the tree said and what he saw.. and the fans in so many houses stopped for a long time.. To add to this a new pole had to be built at the same place, because it was necessary..

I hope I do not need to explain the story..

PS : Story is my intellectual property but I would be happy if anyone wants to reuse it somewhere..

Nice story and very well said. But in this materialistic world, comparison is unavoidable. One way out of this is to think of some one in a worser condition than you. Once you do that, you will quietly say a prayer to thank god that he has kept you in a better position. Beleive me this works and i have done it many a time when i was down on motivation !

" We always look at others and the feeling of jealousness comes in us. We want what other have. We want to be where other are. "<br/>
There is nothing wrong with this attitude AS LONG AS you achieve what you want through hard work. Honestly - we should keep trying every day for something better either for ourselves or for somebody else(world).

"The pole did not think how important was it and how it gave..."
You should be answerable only to yourself and not to others. The moment you listen to others (unless that person is interested in you doing well),you are finished, you are defeated.

Human nature is to feel jealous, which is very unfortunate. The story has been explained very nicely. Thanks Sujatha for referral.

Openly rendered services are much appreciated & visible to everyone as the case of a Tree whereas the Indirect service rendered may not be, very open to all & well recognized by everyone as the case of the Pole(electricity illuminate but pole is the media). However, we should not forget the fact that "self-praising"(tree) spoils many a lives(pole) among the population.

The psychological explanation of jelousy is "it is the reflection of what the person against whom one is jelousy would have felt if he was not in the position he is at present which is an instigation for others to feel jelousy". So jelousy is a mirror reflection of a persons emotions when it is fulfilled when it starts reflecting in others posterior to his or her position.
Adma Smith advised in his magnum opus the "Wealth of Nations" that one should allow anyone interested in making money do so without hinderence otherwise they will turn up against the nation as terrorists of vandals disurupting the economy. I feel it is for the sake of the above dictum he advised so, though Freudian psychology came 200 years after Adam Smiths directions.
So one need not feel upset if one feels jelousy at someone or something owned by someone since it is only the reflection of that persons emotion if he was not in that position or in possession of the thing that causes the jelousy.

it is human nature that needs seldom fulfill. what is luxury today will become necessity tomorrow and what we miss today will become requirement again and what others have will be more attractive. thanks for bringing this into discussion Sujatha

will we happy if we got all our requirements fulfilled. We never satisfy with what we have or what we achieved. If we satisfied there will be no growth financially. The world and we are materialized.so this depression Nothing harm in it you have to fall and then you have to raise on your own that is the real thing.if its wrong let it be you will realize the truth today or tomorrow the period depends on your wisdom.if the pole does not know what it was then it has to fall but the day is not end with that the pole fall across the river and make a bridge to cross over .people felt happy. children jumped .The tree smiled. never forget all are useful.nothing over the earth is useless.

The story well meaningful. We always compare with others and try to be like others in the process we fail to recongise our own talent and abilities. From the childhood onwards our parents and ealders teches us to compare and think like others. I strongly believe that every individual has got one or the other talent. One should discovery one's ability and utilise it for the good of oneself and others. I wish to cite one example here our great petrolum minister while increasing the price of diesel and cooking gas was making comprision with our next door countries adnsaying that our prices are still lower, this is way we justify this mistake. we should be what we are and stand firm on what we are.

Good one with a beautiful message. One should know what he/she is? He/she need not get down by the comments of others. My favourite novelist Mr. Yandamuri Veerendra in his one of the great books he wrote said "Successful people come to know the best qualities within himself/herself so early, the unsuccessful people fail to understand their own best qualities and takes a life time to know themselves". If you are down, you are out. Know what is best in you and win.

Well, the pole was fool... that he just started feeling bad and died.. as if he did something wrong.(That's really the condition of talented people in India). The problem is there was no one to guide the pole what to do next. And the tree... he/she was not at all wrong.
The pole was standing there and distributing electricity free of cost to the people. That's the reason people didnot have any value to his work. Instead of dying he could better stop giving electricity free and charge for it... say 4Rs/unit ( lower than what the govt costs). He could give much better services, so that more people could get attracted.
At last after earning enough, he could just buy a very big umbrella ( bigger than the shade of the tree), some buckets of fruits etc. After then he could just invite the tree for dinner.
I bet.. this time tree would catch fire and die. :)

Nice story i like that..

I asked several people what they thought success was. One person said that "Success is making loads of money." Another said that success is "Achieving your goals". Some one else said that success is "Fulfilling your potential". An interesting answer was that success is "Making others jealous..
