Yesterday I read an article which made me think that do we really feel guilty about the leaves we take? I remeber applying for my first leave when I had confessed that I wouldn't have taken the leave if I knew I would be joining so soon. I had also promised to be available for any offline work if needed. I have seen others doing the same, I have seen people working extra hard so that they might feel that they have earned their leave.

When you joing a company you have an agreement which specifies the number of leaves you can take. You also deserve that weekend or in some cases that half day of saturday and in some cases just that sunday. Perhaps either we are too concious because we are a developing nation or we just do not know what do we deserve.

But how right is it to live this way? Shouldn't we learn to enjoy our rights in the right way? Shouldn't we stop feeling guilty about the fun we have?

Thanks,Gargi for referral. The leave is not matter of right, but it was included causally. There is no guilt if the purpose is genuine and linear.

There is no guilt involved in taking a leave as long as work doesnt suffer and you are able to justify your absence. Do you feel guilty when you stretch out for a couple of hours long after everyone has left or when your work dictates your presence on a holiday ? No ! right, then why should you feel guilty when taking leave.

Taking leave may not be for pleasure alone. Some might have important tasks like going for a check-up or to get a phone connection etc. where your physical presence is required throughout the day. Even otherwise there is nothing wrong in taking leave for pleasure or just to chill out with your spouse as long as you meet your work related deadlines and are efficient at your desk.

So go ahead and dont feel guilty ! There are after all some things in life which you can do without a trace of guilt whatsoever.

Nothing like to feel guilty if your leave will genuine. SO you enjoy your leave when you have genuine reason.

Do not believe in anything simply
because you have heard it.

Do not believe in anything simply
because it is spoken and rumored by many.

Do not believe in anything simply
because it is found written in your religious books.

Do not believe in anything merely
on the authority of your teachers and elders.

Do not believe in traditions simply
because they have been handed down
for many generations.

But after observation and analysis,
when you find that anything agrees with reason
and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all,
then accept it and live up to it."

we should enjoy the time during leave....no company stops working without you!! we can adjust our leave but should not carry forward. Leave from workload required for every busy mind. stress never going to end....but can be controlled or reduced!

Murty sir, I cant say I never ask for leave. But, I rarely and sparingly avails leave, because I dont have works other than my office. Thank god. Lol.
Srinivasji never ask for leave. I do not have tme to take leave. During Nov-Dec, my boss forces us to take leave. Last year he gave me 20 days leave (by force) in 2 instalments.
Gargi a very appreciated article,
Well this article has come on a right time, where in
people are getting pissed off with their daily work routine
and trying to spend their day or hours in their respected ways, down
the line, we can very often,we can observe,Sick leaves,Casual leaves &
bla-bla to come as an excuse to go for an off.
To this regards,i would say that Fixed off in sufficient to go for recreational
activities or relaxing ourselves, excluding the urgent work that comes our way & makes us to go for an Off,but applying or requesting for a regular off is totally irrelevant.

Remember how many of us have a crush to culminate to the higher positions & how many of us really does this, that depends on the interested & our dedication to our work, that we miss in between our career, that acts as a hurdle to pave our way.

A right question Gargiji. I rarely take leaves. My conscious never allow me to ask for leave. I am little bit hesitant to see my officer with a request to grant me a leave, though he never say no to me and my association with him is more than a decade. I think it has nothing to do with rights, but it is the personal mind set. There are people who continue to go on leave without any hesitation. I believe it depends on the personalities.
