All the top Universities are in developed nations. If we see it in different angle, best education facilities belongs to rich people which they encase in knowledge economy to become richer. In our country, we can not think of such an Institution until unless we overcome the basic problems of poverty, corruption and other social problems. We need just another revolution and sacrifice of one generation to walk at par with the developed nations.

Salute to Santosh kumar Mohanty for great comments !

Though, on the other hand without having such kind of universities we had Dr Hargobind Khurana, Dr C.V Raman. and many greats.....Indians are appreciated abroad for their merits , jut see US where we have high number of Indian scholars they are competing with best brains in the world but back home the entire system needs to gear up.

it does not really matter.. what shud bother us, is the attitude we have towards education. For us education means putting a child in schools. we dont look at education in holistic fashion.. why cant we let the child explore its world around it..India is a young nation, give it some time..the churning has began!

Professional should show the way for good colleges..

Mr Durga Rao, good institutions starts from u and me like professionals.. you just answer one question, how many times you interacted with an institute like giving project to students, involving them to learn from practical life .. if we give we give to IIT, IISc and AIIMS or NALSAR they r good for sure.. but if we start interacting more with institutes and start developing a centre of excellence in at least one college one chair in one college give them fundoing ask for work, et some innovation done.. we will be there.. in fact our companies do not spend in R&D then how can you expect them to be good.
Whatever we learn we are never told to use them industry but told to follow prevalent practices.. then schools may not improve..
Bharat electronics give lot of money to IISc for many research this yr we had a chair also in its name.. result will come and it has already come IISc is among top 100-150 clleges in world fom a country where not even 15% is spent on R&D by companies..

I feel really ashamed of at the fact that no Indian University is in the list provided. We can not buy the statement the developed countries have so much to invest and thus they could create the world class universities. I don't accept that perception and India is no longer a poor country and education has already become a big business. We have many businessmen here too to invest in educational sector. The problem is with the people of this country itself where knowledge is not recognized to the extent required. Developed countries lay so much emphasis on education and they believe in research and development and ultimately they rule the world. Here in India, except in exceptional cases, knowledge and ability takes a back seat and other illogical considerations play a big role in ones success or failure in life. This is what even our Venkatraman Ramakrishnan has opined. He says that in abroad you can become a big personality and you can also become the president in the course. He says that the developed countries will not normally look at your knowledge and ability, but, what you have contributed recently and your achievements. As an Indian, I am really shamed to know that no Indian University is finding place in the top ranking universities in the world. We have abundant talent, but, it is not being managed well. We need many reforms in education sector and with proper emphasis, we can create world class universities in India too.
