Rahul Dravid announced his retirement and suddenly we find a new member in the team. Some people think he should have retired earlier while other say he should have continued playing. But all in all I find his decision of making space for someone new right.

We need the 'new' generation to come u and replace old before it is too late. This is not only applicable to the game but everywhere. Yes specially politics. During the recent elections when the elephant was run over by the cycle we all knew its going to be one of them. It rarely makes  any difference who it is.

In cricket the selector don't want to let go the experienced and in politics the inexperienced do not want to jump in. How often do we find a new bee out of an unknown background coming up for a change. If we ask our-self would we be up to participate in the dirty job? I presume that perhaps the answer is 'NO'

My question is how can we convince, teach and encourage the new generation to participate in the process of nation's progress?

Sometimes people can still return after taking a long hiatus, working on their improvement areas and return stronger.. A agile body can be a strong combination for mature mind... See Anil Kapoor, he is getting stronger by the day.. One need to find one's strength and can create a niche which very few people can match...

Change is necessary, if you think u r unable to perform or your growth stucks you should change or if you are working in team you have to replace some one.

One should be able to know about his capabilities while continuing their careers in a particular field. Academic field doesn't have limitation due to the fact that there are infinite ways in gaining knowledge. In sports field it isn't like that. After some age our bodies don't keep up with rigours of national sport. A player should be able to gauge it and retire accordingly. And if the next generation players aren't as capable in replacing not only the players at the same time showing enough ammunition to perform in the league of those seniors, then there will be a bigger worry than loss of those seniors from the side.

Changes are inevitable. There are some industries where there is no retirement at all. Politics is one of such pathetic industries. Except in politics, all other areas accept the age factor and run accordingly giving way to next generation. In cricket also it is the same. Seniors players are still in Indian team because they play well even now. If it is the case of Sachin, he never played a bad game in any series except the last tour in Australia. During the tour to Australia none of them played well except Virat, so it had nothing to do with seniority.

I just meant to convey that as long as the seniors are doing a good job, irrespective to their industry, they have full right to stick into their industry. If they don't perform, it is better they retire.

If the base or foundation is strong and well set, then you wouldnt need to convince anyone to jump-in in the first place. They would automatically clamour to be part of the process. The very fact that people are not willing to participate be it politics or any other kind of social activity - shows the rot prevalent in the system.

The young generation has a stake. It is about time they take the cudgel of nation building. In my view,Akhilesh in UP will prove catalyst,if he succeeds in taking the province on the path of development. As for Rahul Dravid,he is very gentle man and unassuming personality and the young ones can learn from his characteristic.

When old water passes a fresh water replace it. It is a universal phenomenon. Game has its own life cycle. It is appreciable for his right decision. But his experience shall be utilized for training of youngsters.

Well both the old and the young should accept and come to terms with the reality. "Change" or rather replacement of the old by the young (new) is the order of nature. Older ones/seniors should see the flush of youthfulness and encourage the young who have the best qualities and give way, rather than hanging over Similarly the young should come out with more confidence to the public life and use the wisdom of the elders. Thus change is bound to happen and the beauty lies in accepting it graciously.

Why the younger generation or for that matter the educated and better off class of people are not coming into the political or the nation building activities. The only reason I find is the lack of selfless leaders to inspire, motivate and guide people. We do not have the kind of leaders who can evoke a feeling of oneness in us. We need people of the caliber of Gandhi to make us feel this is our country and we have to work for it.

There are others whose performance is not upto the mark but still are continuing with an eye on records, such people should also think of retiring

Cricket is an exception. In seventies and eighties, we see the domination of Mumbaikars in the Indian cricket team. In the advent of IPL, 20-20 world cup, mighty players, who have no botheration about techniques, have assumed their place in the Indian cricket. Every one is in a hurry to monetise the opportunity, not really bothered about learning the nuances of international cricket. Rahul Dravid is the one the world would admire for his consistency, temperament and above all his technique.

Scaling up in the ladder in politics is easy for the kith and kin of the seasoned politicians. If we consider some qualification, tickets should be given to those who have prior political experience, say in this order, MLC to MLA to MP. A person who got elected twice as MP should only be made eligible to take the ministerial berth, otherwise not. If we follow this method, a politician,by the time he becomes a minister, would have understood the grass-root politics, would also understand the value of voters and their woes. We are creating a very dangerous precedence of dynastic rule, as if we do not have able statesmen to take the mantle of country's leadership. Now, we have seen in the recent UP Assembly elections, the priorities of voters have changed from one of caste politics (pseudo-secular) to development issues. The one who cares them would be elected, not otherwise. Trampling of elephant by cycle may sound rhythmic, but it was only the polarisation effect, as the voters were fed up with the way the National Parties were conducting themselves in the campaigns, and the anti-incumbancy factor, nothing more nothing less. If the elected party to stay in power, they should really translate their promises in the election manifesto in to reality. They should not be venting their anger on streets, but should be reaching out to the masses, riding on bi-cycles, not on official vehicles blasting sirens threatening them!

The question of participating rests within a person. Others can help smoothen a process or a path. How many of us are ready to face competition readily? Are we secure enough within? Are we ready to change our comfort zones? Given a choice repeat given a choice, very few of would want a change voluntarily.

We are all too busy in our own worlds to bother about the nation. How many of us know the budget allocated to our local MLA/MLC/MP and what has been the expense so far? What are the plans for future expenditure? With malise to none, this is more true of the urban youth who are busy with work during the week, living it up on weekends and just 'hanging out'. This is one possible reason why politics has become a family business.
