Often we find ourselves indecisive and trapped in undue web of our attachments, our belongings and never diminishing desires. Although we continue to be unhappy and dissatisfaction but seldom do we practically try to disengage ourselves from these trappings and try to justify our state of being by way of assigning various reasons for our disillusionments

For instance, People who have left countries of origin for career or jobs in foreign countries for greener pasture often pine to come back to their countries but are unable to decide and act. Similar indecisiveness is quite common while thinking about switching jobs, relinquishing job for entrepreneurship, making an investment, engaging in social service, choosing occupations of own real interests, giving up supposedly bad habits, getting out of addictions etc. etc., list is endless.

Long time back, i came across an interesting piece of information that is an excellent analogy to our trappings. In some parts of Asia, a simple device is used to trap a monkey alive. A pot with wide bottom and narrow opening is filled with nuts and fruits and left in a place where monkeys abound.  A monkey is attracted to the smell of the delectable treat, puts his hand inside the pot and captures it in fist. The monkey is unable to take hand out of the pot with the fist closed with the treat because of narrow opening of the pot. If the monkey opens the fist, can surely get hand out of the pot but temptation of the treat is too overcoming to resist.   So, with the movement of the agile and clever monkey restricted, the trapper can easily get hold of it.

Is their any panacea for indecisiveness based on our attachments? Is such indecisiveness natural or a reflection on our weakness?

I agree with BV krishna murthy, every word he wrote here is true. Really what ever we have achieved and fame we procured are no more an achievement at our old ages. They really not come with us. The only thing we can take from here is what good we have done for others. It does not mean we have to leave every thing and do a penance. What ever comes to you take it as granted and accept it but never run towards the pleasures. let it come in their own way towards you, you can enjoy it, but when you run behind it you are trapped. Work hard for a good and betterment, judge the about the happiness we attain, satisfy yourselves with that, see yourselves in every human being, we will never get trapped and you can fill this world with happiness. The best person who propounds this truth is mother theresa. when she starts she is nothing, but she accepted everything happen in her life as granted by god and did all the good he can for others on a belief that good never fails and blessed by the god always. she transformed this world alot, she proved.

I have a project which I have not yet been able to implement. Lot of my time and effort is spent on finding right partners for implementation. In view of this, I have sacrificed possible opportunities in my profession which could have allowed me to live comfortably. So by holding on to my project which is taking unduly a long time to implement, I have become a monkey.
However, once I succeed to implement the project, it would result in a lifetime achievement and all the time and effort spent, will become justified.
If I still don't implement it, I would say that it is the system and the nation's loss.
As of now, I have my peace of mind. My health is unaffected. Amongst my contempories, they think I am a monkey to have persisted with the project. I think of my contemporaries as being people with lesser IQ and so - that's how they think. My family, however, expects better comfort and could have received better comfort if I had persisted with opportunities in my profession. My analysis is that I have peace of mind since I can see end of the road but my family is unable to see it now. Once the project is implemented, the family gets to be better off, a thousand times more.
Monkey or not, I have held on to the attachments and still am at peace. Whether I become the monkey or contemporaries... time will only clarify.
It is good and thrilling to hold on to an ambitious project. Not every one can conceive it. Just the expectation of phenomental achievement itself will fill you with positive energy and motivation to persist. Thus, there is something good to be a monkey with trappings after all!!

Allow me to begin with the expression and state Not ever monkey gets trapped and cages are not available for every monkey.
Understanding of SELF, conduct with a purpose and respect for creator and its creations makes it extremely simple.
The errors we make are when we begin to attach ownership to blessings, start to convert resources as goals and get thoroughly confused along the way.
Living life simply for self as a contributor or medium to better all around with intent of assistance and betterment helps in not getting trapped.
Cause and reason are forever associated and it is loosing this logic that people find themselves trapped.
Just to think: Why should I NOT help the other person instead of Why should I do? changes the process outcome much more for self than anyone else.

We can satisfy our needs but we can never satisfy our greed. Our philosophy urges us to develop contentment. Be satisfied with what we have. This is not to imply that we should go into a forest or do penance. Rather, we should develop the temperament of the water drop on the lotus leaf. It is there and yet it is not there. A whiff of wind is enough to let it fall to the ground. This state is called attached detachment (or detached attachment). If one can reach this state, one will not get into any trap. On the contrary, one would be liberated. Even the richest person on this planet should realize (as indeed all the rest of us) that she or he cannot take one rupee or dollar with her / him when the time of reckoning arrives. This is one reason corporate philanthropy is so fashionable today. Bill Gates gave away most of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to help fight cancer, HIV/Aids etc. His close friend Warren Buffet followed suit. The irony is that the west which has always pursued materialism is now finding solace in doing something good for society. We, on the other hand, steeped in a culture that advocates moderation, are pursuing materialism as if there is no tomorrow. The moment we change this perspective, we will feel free.

WE ARE AN ADVANCED VERSION OF MONKEYS... RIGHT ?
A very nice case U have put up.
If the monkey cant leave His temptation & is weak & indecisive... We are only an advanced version... advanced with DESIRES, TEMPTATIONS, WEAKNESSES, ADDICTIONS... the list is endless.
The monkey is fortunate that he just has to deal with Nuts & a couple of other things, while our world is full of Desires & Wants... " Kise Pakde, aur Kise Chode ".

Mankind is born & shall perish with this Dilemma & honestly there is no end to it. Some people take SANYAS, due to these problems, But that is also not the right answer. Though very very very difficult, but the only answer is CONTROL OVER UR SENSES. Something I can only wrie BUT never even think of doing.
Great thought ARI...

Thanks Mr Akshaya for referral.
The human or any living creature's attachment is a product of its sustenance. In the sense we are all monkeys. We are serving the purpose of each other. The good living require material comforts that is what it is called a trap.A common water hole drive non vegetarian and vegetarian animals to a place they would want to resist but the sustenance compel them and some one becomes the fodder of other. The same analogy you could draw for humans once they feel trapped or migrated for green postures, their inner feeling encroach them to return their own routes, but because of false notion of high standard of living they find incapacitated.

Indecisiveness may appear when there are two or more options that have more or less equal attractiveness for the decision maker. That makes it difficult to choose among those two or more options. Looked at from this viewpoint, indecisiveness may indeed be based on attachment as this is what causes attractiveness. Of course, indecisiveness may arise owing to many reasons and may not necessarily be a weakness. For instance, it may arise simply because there are equally attractive options available. Or it may be there because the person has the capacity to think of more options.

Thanks for the referral Mr.Akshaya Bhatia and it is very interesting.

In fact human wants are unlimited and their mental pendulum will always be oscillating.
Everybody is subjected to this state of mind and no one can escape. What to do...
If one is always thinking the problems, he will lag behind.Hence one should have the courage to overcome this problems.
There are people who are able to control themselves and having clear vision and are successful in their life. This can be achieved only through practice. Therefore one should be able divert their mind on great contributions and achievements made by others and should be kept as role model with a view to elevate themselves in the social ladder. Nothing is impossible in this world with proper aim, moral courage, hard work, perseverance and dedication in the role set.

Human perception is limited by what our minds have been conditioned to see. We are typically and consciously aware of only a small fraction of what is going on in our world, and our level of consciousness is directly related to what we have been taught and by whom.

For most of us, the perceptive filters we see through block out the greatest part of our reality. Science has proven that, in every given second, our bodies receive up to ten billion bits of information and our minds filter out all but fifteen to thirty of those bits of information.

Fifteen to thirty bits of information out of billions is the extent of our conscious perception!

clarity of awarness make anybody a good decision maker. its not about the "tonnes of information been carried by onesself but a vision on the very basic idea of life."
