Travails of a new comer in an organization   

 

This I was writing to make people aware of what
they should do and where to be careful while joining new
organizations. Most important thing is to behave in such a way as if a
blind man moves on a new path.  May be blind man has to put his effort and he can
move ahead. In a new organization, it is not so.
 There are people who are just waiting to grab you down the moment, you are
 in their grip. If not so aggressive, at least no one
 has the incentive to help you out but not otherwise. Some times your selection in
 the organization could be result of clashing of two egos
 particularly between corporate and regional heads which is quite
 common in every company.   

 

                                        
     You can understand what happens when you are posted
 in the region as a subordinate to regional head without any link to the person who has selected you for the post. More so when the person you are reporting is
 not in the interview board.   

                                        
     The purpose of the selection is sometimes not to
 select the right person for the pending job but to
 put the person to make a dent in the already stabilized organization. May be they are
 judging if you have the ability to challenge the
 empire of an unconquerable person.                                           
 
     Now what happens when that particular person plans
 to join the company with lot of hopes and dreams of a
 new career with good perks neatly written on a paper handed over to him? Too much enthusiastic and ready to takeover the
 world and also why not , he has  been selected by the company for this so called
 cushy job out of so many based on his experience,
 qualification and credentials.                                           
     There is no communication from the office for your
 welcome. A ghastly silence welcomes you for your every eager mail. You don't know if you need to keep cash, utensils and equipments. As a logical person if nothing is
 informed, you go fully prepared. So pack    everything and move. Changing trains and buses etc for the new destination. No person is perfectly white or black. But every one is with gray with shades.                               
    
 
     World is more in analog in macro view and is
 digital in micro view. It is difficult to under stand if
 what we are talking is micro or macro and to what reference. More so when no one is there
 at the destination at night. One person comes to receive as if it is ok even if   he does not come. You go to a hotel and take a room
 along with the family. No phones from the company to take care of your well being.

                                            
     The most important person to you is the person who
 has come to you to receive at the station and he is at the bottom of hierarchy which comes as a surprise later on. Another person to whom you have communicated for some time comes then in picture. You ask him if there is any date by which you have to join.
 He says “as per your convenience". Clearly there is no interest in your joining and there is no job pending/ waiting for you. You start questioning your-self if that salary is really
 justified. May be no, company wants to give some time to recuperate after long journey and then start bombarding. It seems as if everyone is even afraid to talk to you let alone doing help.                                           
 
     One more thing is important that nothing is perfection in the world, in fact the moment it becomes perfect and logical (what is understood to us), it comes to static and still. Imperfection is the only driving force at every stage. May be God is only perfect. We will be the biggest fools if we expect that everything goes by the logic we assume to understand. One thing is clear that to be a leader you should have at least one strong point which can
 take care of some weak points. Most importantly it should be "GUTS" and courage.
 
     You come and meet on first day unit head. The
 luggage is waiting to be cleared. People start questioning
 as if they are not aware of your joining and you are most unwanted person in
 the company and why not. Your interview, job profile
 has not been informed in details to the unit. May be the corporate don't
 want to inform considering information is also a type of
 seeking permission. On-information is at least can be considered to be a form of supremacy if not otherwise. Till now the corporate seems to be successful in their endeavor to impose their authority on the unit. No the chance is with unit head.
 
You will be informed that the luggage clearance is big problem and you should not have come with luggage as every incumbent is given luggage/utensils by the company only due to
 clearance problems. You are staying in the hotel with the family and truck is waiting for clearance and with no accommodation. Try to talk to so called HR department to solve problems and talk to a person to whom you have been in communication since long (Of
 course to no use). In fact you come to under stand these
 people are only shadows without any power to take a single decision though
 designated to be managers of respective fields. Power is centered in a single person only.

 


 
     You don't know whom to ask what? Normally in this condition you prefer to go to HR department. Some how you zero in on a house and shift immediately and vacate the hotel within 7days. This figure of 7 days is also adhoc as there
 is no documentary evidence to support. Later you come to know that people even
 stayed more than 6 months. In fact you are first
 kind of your kind who joined from other company and people are not aware of
 formalities. Some how you shift to house which
 happens to be worst kind of house other than safety (Safety is most important in the
 troubled region). No one is bothered to give you any
 kind of suggestion as there is only one person who is close to you rank and he has
 not yet come into picture. You start going to company and attend induction
 program. It is as if you are left on your own and
 free to do whatever you want. Then comes the admission of the kid in DPS. The principal
 after being consulted gives you a date for taking
 the form.
