A little compilation of quotes:

  • It may be long before the law of love will be recognized in international affairs. The machineries of government stand between and hide the hearts of one people from those of another.
  • Your character must be above suspicion, and you must be truthful and self-controlled.
  • The truest test of civilization, culture, and dignity is character, not clothing.
  • Men of stainless character will easily inspire confidence and automatically purify the atmosphere around them.
  • The real property that a parent can transmit to all equally is his or her character and educational facilities.
  • All your scholarship would be in vain if at the same time you do not build your character and attain mastery over your thoughts and your actions.
  • There is no occasion for women to consider them selves subordinate or inferior to men.
  • Truth is like a vast tree which yields more and more fruit the more you nurture it.
  •  If your heart acquires strength, you will be able to remove blemishes from others without thinking evil of them.
  •  Satyagraha is a process of educating public opinion, such that it covers all the elements of the society and makes itself irresistible.
  •  Nonviolent Non-cooperation with evil means cooperation with all that is good.
  •  Moral results can only be produced by moral restraints.
  •  What I object to is the craze for machinery, not machinery as such.
  •  Peace will not come out of a clash of arms but out of justice lived and done by unarmed nations in the face   of odds.
  •  Freedom is like birth. Till we are fully free, we are slaves.
  •  If it is man's privilege to be independent, it is equally his duty to be inter-dependent.
  •  There would be no one to frighten you if you refuse to be afraid.
  •  Fasting is an institution as old as Adam. It has been resorted to for self-purification or for some   ends, noble as well as ignoble.
  •  Conscience is the ripe fruit of strictest discipline.
  •  Evolution of democracy is not possible if we are not prepared to hear the other side.
  •  I do not regard capital to be enemy of labor.

The "law of love" is not recognized in international affairs, in government, politics, business...much less in our daily lives, between fellow citizens, neighbors, friends, relatives...or even with our own so-called "loved ones". If I cannot be consistently loving with those I claim to love, how can I ever come to love my enemy? Until we can find the capacity for real love in ourselves...and remember it...it is hypocritical to point a finger outward at the love-less world around us. All such change begins with "me". Until I see this and recognize it...and have the courage to obey such a mandate in my own life, all I am capable of, at best, is one minute of nostalgic appreciation for such quotes. Gandhi gave his life (literally) to the essence of such sayings. To what am I prepared to give my life?

It is a shame to say that this man needs our one minute. I think he needs a lot. though I feel that many things that he taught us might look irrelevant today to us but it is because we are unable to reach up to that level to understand. We really need to rise up!!

Dear Ujjwal,
It is nice to know there is another independent thinker who rates LOVE so highly.

After a lot of thinking, logical processes and how we behave I have also come to the conclusion that LOVE and courteous behaviour are the best for changing this world into a better place than ever before and that includes all human and animal activity

Wow !!! great quotes by a great man ......... & now some more are being added by Munnabhai. It's sad that we need a reason to remind Mahatma Gandhi. Kudos to Munnabhai for that. I wonder how the Mahatma would have reacted to the term - Gandhigiri. Perhaps he would have laughed his heart out.

He actually deserves more than a minute and today people are so much engrossed in their day to day activities, that they needed a movie like munnabhai to be reminded them about this great personality like Gandhi. And movie really did very well because it was something really new for the audience, with this we can easily say that people don't know the values for which they fought for the freedom...So it is a sorry situation that India is finding it hard to remember these guys, people are just happy that they get a holiday on OCT 2nd and nothing much...
