India is a free nation. People have rights but still women are struggling to come up. There is a lot of violence against women not only in India but also in other countries.

So what can men who really want this to stop do?

1. Don't remain silent when you see anyone you know is abusing a woman.

2. If you feel woman around you is harassed, ask her.

3.If you are emotionally, psychologically, physically, or sexually abusive to women, or have been in the past, seek professional help NOW.

4.Don’t fund sexism. Refuse to purchase any magazine, rent any video, subscribe to any Web site, or buy any music that portrays girls or women in a sexually degrading or abusive manner. Protest sexism in the media

5.Mentor and teach young boys about how to be men in ways that don’t involve degrading or abusing girls and women. Volunteer to work with gender violence prevention programmes, including anti-sexist men’s programmes. Lead by example.

The woman who is she and we the men who have feelings about her presence, show her nature and beauty and understand that the women is one that we can’t never forget. We say that regeneration and change are everywhere. Change brings its own challenges. Women are often not only the drivers of change but also feel its impact most. Each and every one in the world has a proper understanding about the life of a woman which changed immensely. William Arthur Ward said that: "A true friend knows your weaknesses but shows you your strengths; feels your fears but fortifies your faith; sees your anxieties but frees your spirit; recognizes your disabilities but emphasizes your possibilities." -

You've made some great points. There are so many things that can be said and done about this. Men should always be taught that violence against women is wrong and it should be stopped.

Many social reformers born & perished, mountain of books written on women's emancipation by great scholars, laws are enacted & reviewed periodically but , still, exploitation of women continues. It is, due to inherent unawareness in our social system. That edifice, is built on keeping women as a nodal point & to be exploited for their weakness. Once , more awareness brings-in through good education, an economic independence may change the trend. But, to achieve these again social blocks are there.

Most of the men will never treat women with dignity, they have this farce men's ego, they will never tolerate a women, wife, daughter...raising voice against their rules, wishes, orders... For such men, the best way to teach lesson and mend their stupid ego is: Tit for Tat. If he is slapping his wife, slam him with a big kick..

Yes If we men understand than it will be safe environment for women but the reason behind is that...this harassment and rape are only occur in uneducated people so we have to first convey this message to them!& the other one is that women do not see men's criteria against her, she always see positiveness in men's eyes and that affects a lot and the rest is history!

It is really sensitive topic to comment.
It is happened only due to war of supremacy. One should respect the opposite gender, as whether you agree or disagree mother nature requires a contribution from both genders.

Vinod part of what you say is right and agreeable but not the rest. Sexism and potrayal of sex has been there from the ancient ages in indian culture. But having said that, it doesnt invite abuse or violence. Also, you have remained silent on the abuse against men. It is no secret today that in india men are more wrongfully abused of sexual violence and crime by women exploiting the existing loopholes. A high court (i forget fm which state) has recently observed this and passed an order against the female who filed a sexual harrassment complaint and also castigated her for the false complaint. This is on the rise in india especially with the recent amendments to the consexual sex law which makes it a crime even if there is consexual sex between a man and woman. So, lets not be judgemental and emotional in dealing with this problem.

"Men and women are the two wheels of a life chariot. If one wheel is greater or inferior than the other, the chariot can not proceed further smoothly". Well said Srinivas. This explains the reality aptly. Any way I think times are changing and frankly in a few years time, the women in middle class and above will be fully empowered.
The challenge before the nation is to take it to the lower strata of society. As in case of all the reforms that have been a success story in India of the last two decades, women empowerment looks increasing likely to bypass the lower strata. The challenge before this ambitious nation is to carry all these reforms to the mentioned segment of our society. For India still lives in her villages

Women are second to none. They proved ofcourse. We are treating the women as a separate class. As long as we continue to do this, these things may not improve. This is where we are faulting. We are generalising the success of some women to the entire class. Why dont we apply this classification to the male gender. We may have many women at the helm. They reached to the spot having put their own efforts. This problem is not confined to our country or a few other countries. Its a universal problem. Things are getting improved globally. Men and women are the two wheels of a life chariot. If one wheel is greater or inferior than the other, the chariot can not proceed further smoothly. We all know it, but we are conveniently ignoring this fact. We need to accept this universal fact. One need not give her the place she requires. She is already there. We are not recognize it. She should be confident of her first, then things will definitely improve rapidly.

A great topic to debate on. And great to see many strong views too. I guess it is just not men or women who are enemies of the woman. As a society we are tuned to consciously or sub consciously look down on ladies. I think we got to on ourselves as a society and not as males or females. As a society we got to tune ourselves to keep in touch with the changes in time.

Sulagna, congratulations. The purpose of this post is to improve the general environment around women. As a journalist, you have done right. Unfortunately, communications get misinterpreted and misunderstood. My experience is that on 5 out of 10 harassment situations we come across, we end up doing nothing. This should improve. I will try.

May I request Hon'ble Sulagna Brahma to read my comments please?

Don't remain silent when you see anyone you know is abusing a woman
--In turn I was abused by the woman, branding me as a person with ulterior motives.

If you feel woman around you is harassed, ask her
--They never say, they are harassed and pretend to be happy.

Don’t fund sexism. Refuse to purchase any magazine, rent any video, subscribe to any Web site, or buy any music that portrays girls or women in a sexually degrading or abusive manner. Protest sexism in the media
--No way. This will not help.

Mentor and teach young boys about how to be men in ways that don’t involve degrading or abusing girls and women. Volunteer to work with gender violence prevention programmes, including anti-sexist men’s programmes. Lead by example
--Tried, but treated like a mad man, a person who lost his senses and humiliated.

I may not agree totally with what is quoted women are the biggest enemies to womenkind. This may be true wherein we see that a girl child is sold for money or girl child does not get importance for studying while a baby boy goes for a school. Now a days it is frequently seen that baby girls are sexually abused and tortured. In these cases, what did the girl child do?? As we have recently read in papers, are those two kids responsible for their death?? This is happening because of the men becoming and acting like an animal. Even animals have some soft corner but men are worse than that. Men should understand that females are also human, working together in an environment which is not safe and secure for them, but still are working to share the burden of men. Lets take an oath that we would give due respect to all human kind not only for women or men.
I have a request for women also, let us protect ourselves by wearing a better outfit and dresses which is comfortable and gain due respect than exposing ourselves.

most of the crimes against women are done by women. They need to change their attitudes. Secondly, men should have an independent mindset with decision making capabilities. They should fight for what is right.

Sulagna, with due respects - i am repeating what i said in one of my earlier posts - women are the biggest enemies to womenkind. So a change in attitude is required at womens level for their real emancipation. I agree with Piyush hundred percent.

Only woman can stop violence against her.Because you can't prevent or compel others to respect the women.Self improvement is necessary for us.Women have to be stronger.......As they already have proven that they are no longer behind the Men in any kind of field then why they become weak whenever somebody tries to molest them or tease them.
