I came across this article which is about employee retention. A recently released survey provides some valuable HR learnings on employee retention.


It was observed that rewards and recognition alongside awareness campaigns within the organisation were some of the popular tools employed to promote the spirit of volunteering.Many Indian IT companies are now focusing on creating entrepreneurs within organisations and have started mentoring platforms for budding innovators.

Companies now provide training to such individuals and encourage them by giving them bigger roles and responsibilities. Many companies also give budding entrepreneurs ownership of projects from the idea stage.

Additionally HR professionals believe that the best way to engage with an employee is through awards and recognition while IT employees believe that there should be more off-site trips instead.

Consultants, however, had a slightly different view and felt that volunteering programmes and flexible working hours are the best employee engagement tools. When asked about whether in-house training was preferred over external trainers and vice-versa, most respondents cited that employees engaged in both, internal and external training modules.


http://www.280group.com/ptgraphics/training.jpg   However, when asked whether they would partner with an external agency to jointly fund training, 65 per cent of IT professionals and 57 per cent of consultants felt that this was a viable option but only 33 per cent of HR professionals agreed using such methods.

When it comes to hiring, a staggering 97 per cent of IT professionals said they would prefer trained individuals over freshers and while close to 75 per cent of HR executives and independent consultants also agree with this, around 25 per cent cited hiring freshers is also encouraged.

today unlike the past employees have varying needs and their confidence level of getting alternate assignments are also on the higher side.Preferably right people should be retained and management should do the  needful.

EMPLOYEE WANTS HAPPINESS BY APPRECIATION , REWARDS ,GOOD PACKAGE , RETURN FOR THE WORK DONE BY HIM/HER.IN ANY CASE EMPLOYEE WANTS TO BE HAPPY AT WORK.ENVIORMENT MUST BE FRIENDLY .

Yes sounds good. Training has become a part of job profile during 80's. As far as recognition is concerned the retiring employee will be sent to a forign location for six to eight months in order to draw maximum benifits on retirement.

i personally feel there should be short term strategy & long term strategy to retain employees.

In addition the attitude is the main moving force for any employee wheather s/he should remain or not with the organisation hence one should take help of doctors to see the attitude of the employee & whather s/he is a long race horse or not.

Good one, what I feel is,

@ External training by CP(Competent Person) or SME(Subject Mater Expert)is always preferred because, trainee get more interaction than with the internal training.

@ Trend to hiring only experienced & not the freshers, shows that Company is not interested to train the new guys.Want to eat away ready made cakes.Company may not have infrastructure to train them sufficiently. In this case, experienced will hop away after sometime.Clearly paves way for attrition.

@ Awards & recognition is nothing new in Industry that always motivate guys through various awards only.You have seen that the cinema world introduced so many awards, in so many categories.

Good one from u dear. Thanks. I for one always believe in the theory that TRAINING IS A CONTINUOUS PROCESS AND PATIENCE IS THE KEY TO B EMPLOYED. THIS IS A TIME MANAGEMENT. WHEN AN EMPLOYER INVEST MORE TIME ON ANY ONE IT SHOWS HOW MUCH THEY TAKE CARE OF THEM. HOPE ANAND U WILL AGREE.
